Access to the starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled and on to Bohinjska Bistrica. Continue driving towards Bohinjsko jezero (Ribčev laz), at which you will come to a crossroads, where you will continue straight along the left (south) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanec and the Savica waterfall. Follow this road to the bottom station of the pendulum at Vogel, then buy a ticket and take the cable car to the top station, which is the starting point for our tour.
Path description:
When you get off at the top station of the cable car, turn right towards the Merjasec mountain hut. This is reached after a 100m walk.
At the hut, take the path in the direction of Vogel, Šije and Rodice. The way forward begins to descend gently on a ski slope, and then leads us to a nondescript saddle, where the path to Zlatorog branches off to the right.
Continue left along the worse road, where there are no signs, but you will come across markings a little further on. The dirt road starts to climb and turns slightly right. A little further on, cart track has a crossroads, but the left steep and right curving quickly merge. Then, on the right hand side, you see a cross where the minor road flattens out and leads to a fork in the path on a small plateau.
Here, turn left, first downhill and then uphill on the other side of the ridge to the top of the ski lift. When the wide path leads to the top of this lift, leave the path.
Follow the ridge northwards. After a few metres the path is blocked by dwarf pines. The crossing is found to the right in a slight downhill. Soon we see a faint saddle on the ridge we left. The path to the saddle is difficult, but it is possible without much climbing on dwarf pines. On the other side of the saddle descend a few metres and then continue right under the rocks. Climb up the grass and the path is stopped again by dwarf pines. The best passage is found a little to the right. Again we are on an indistinct ridge. Here you can see the summit and choose a passage on the right side of a small sinkhole a few metres below the summit. The last metres are not difficult.
The path from the top of the ski lift to the summit is completely pathless. In the fog, orientation is very difficult.
