Access to the starting point:
Cross the border crossing Sotina into Austria, where you turn left just after the border towards Strgarjevo / Kalch. After this point, you will arrive from the Austrian state of Burgenland into the Austrian state of Styria / Steiermark, and after Neustift, turn right at the crossroads in the direction of Kapfenstein. In the village, turn right towards Schloss Kapfenstein and follow the signs for the castle at the following junctions. Park to the right of the castle in the parking lot at the edge of the forest.
Path description:
From the end of the parking lot, bear right to the north-east, crossing a fence, and shortly after the fence, bear left onto a track that climbs through a vineyard. Higher up, the vineyard ends and in a few steps you reach the top of Kapfensteiner Kogel, which offers some views.
From the top, continue straight ahead and descend a little, joining cart track on the right, which we have left just beyond the fence.
Here, too, we continue straight on, and we walk to the nearby chapel, from which we have a fine view of Riegersburg Castle.
