Rifugio Sorgenti del Piave - Monte Peralba (Ferrata Sartor)

Access to the starting point:
From the Trbiz/Tarvisio-Vieden/Udine motorway, take the Tolmezzo exit and follow the road towards the town. Near Tolmezzo, leave the main road leading to the Pso di Croce Carnico Pass/Plockenpass and head towards Villa Santina in Ampezzo. In Villa Santina, at the roundabout, go straight ahead following the signs Raveo, Rigolato. Follow this road until Cima Sapadda, where you turn right towards the summit of Monte Peralba. Follow the rather narrow and steep road to the large parking lot under the mighty Peralba. Park in the lower parking lot, where you will see signs for the Calvi hut (the hut at the source of the Piave is a little further on, about 500 m).

Path description:
From the parking lot, signs for the Calvi hut direct you to a dirt road that begins a moderate climb eastwards. The road soon crosses a short lane of sparse wodland and then climbs a level higher in a few serpentines. From a fairly scenic road, a marked footpath then branches off to the right, which can be followed to continue the ascent.
If you continue on the footpath and start early enough, you may see a few marmots along the way. In this case, you will reach the Calvi hut in less than an hour.
If you continue on the road, it starts to climb steeply (less steeply than the footpath, of course) and after about an hour's walk from the starting point, it leads you to the Calvi hut, which is situated on a pleasant and very scenic hill.
From the hut, continue slightly left along the wide path towards the Passo Sesis saddle and the summit of Monte Peralba. The path then climbs over a small scree slope and then turns into grassy slopes, where after a few minutes you reach a crossroads where a climbing route branches off to the left to Monte Peralba - ferrata Sartor (straight Monte Peralba "the route of Pope John Paul II".

From the crossroads, continue westwards and start climbing gently up the grassy slope. The path then turns slightly to the right and soon leads to the entrance to the climbing part of the route.

At the beginning of the climbing section, you climb along a rocky terrain along a small rope, followed by a short unprotected climb. From here on the route becomes a little more difficult and initially climbs almost vertically on scree. There is a fairly steep climb along the rope, and then the path turns slightly to the left and crosses a steep rocky slope. Again, a steep climb up the right-hand side of the rock, then the path leads to a less steep, craggy summit slope of the mountain.
This part of the route is not protected, but the slope is not so steep that the ascent would cause us major problems. Following the path marked with red dots and arrows, you will soon reach the summit.
