Lovska koča Muljava - Mali Petrovac (Petrova gora) (Roman path)

Access to the starting point:
a) Leave the Zagreb-Split motorway at the Karlovec / Karlovac exit. Through the town, follow the signs for Split and Slunj. After Karlovac, drive through Jelase, Vukmanički Cerovac and Tušilović. In Tušilović turn left towards Vojnić. When you reach Vojnić, you will see tourist signs for the Muljava Hunting Lodge, which you will reach after a 10-minute drive. Park at the Hunting Lodge.
b) From Bela krajina, drive through Border crossing Metlika to Croatia, where follow the signs for Karlovec / Karlovac, then follow description a.

Path description:
Our route starts between the Muljava hunting lodge and the children's playground, where we see the first signs and stairs. We go uphill and after a minute's walk we arrive at the Zoranovac rest area.
Here, the path takes a long right turn to the east and leads to a stream, which is soon crossed by a small bridge. There is an easier climb through thinner forest and after about 15 minutes of walking you reach a wider forest road, which you follow for about 10 minutes. While walking along the road, we join another path from Muljava.
After 10 minutes, turn right off the road onto a muddier path, which is the result of logging (as at 2021). The path becomes steeper and steeper and leads through some more overgrown parts. Higher up, the path transitively flattens out, then becomes steep again and leads to Veliki Petrovac, where there is a huge monument, which is unfortunately abandoned.
For many mountaineers, this is also the final destination because they believe that this is the highest peak of Mount Peter, but in fact Mali Petrovac is a few metres higher.
I should mention that from the top of the monument, despite its relatively low altitude, there is an exceptional view to the south, where you can see Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to the north, where you can see all the way to Slovenia, but the climb up to the monument is unprotected and dangerous.
From the monument, continue south along the asphalt road, which begins to descend, and you will soon see an information board and a path that climbs alongside a telecommunications facility. After a few minutes of further walking, you will reach Mali Petrovac, the highest peak of Petrova Gora.
There is a registration book at the top. As the summit is in the forest there is no view. A minute further from the summit are the ruins of the Petrovac Monastery.
