Koutschitz Alm/Kočiška planina - Starhand (by road)

Access to the starting point:
Access from Trbiz/Tarvisio: From Trbiz/Tarvisio, take the old road into Austria. After the village of Vrata/Thorl, the road turns left and crosses the railway with an underpass. Follow the road to the village of Bistrica/Feistritz, where in the centre of the village, at a sharp right turn, the road branches off towards the village of Blače/Vorderberg (continue straight ahead at the crossroads). At Blače/Vorderberg turn left towards the church and follow the road until the next crossroads where you turn right in the route mountain pasture Donice/Dolinza Alm. The tarmac road then takes us past the huts on Kočiška planina/Koutschitz Alm and leads us just a little further on to the next crossroads, where we continue on the upper road and drive for about 2km to the parking lot at the next crossroads. No further driving is allowed.
Access from Villach: Take the old road to Trbiz/Tarvisio and after the village of Megvarje/Maglern turn right under the railway. Follow the above description.
Access from Slovenia: Via the Rateče border crossing to Trbiz/Tarvisio, follow the above description.

Path description:
From the parking lot, continue along the lower left-hand road, which crosses a stream after only a few metres. On the other side of the stream across the road, you will see a ramp after which the road starts to climb. There is a climb through the forest and a sharp right turn. The road then climbs parallel to the stream, which can be heard to the right below us. Next the road crosses an electricity cable and shortly afterwards brings us to a crossroads of two roads. Continue left along the upper road, which takes you a little higher up to some slopes with views. At the next crossroads, turn left again and follow the path to mountain pasture, where you continue along the right-hand road, which climbs transversely above mountain pasture.
After mountain pasture, leave the road and head left up the steep cart track, which leads to the second upper part of mountain pasture. Here the road and cart track end, and we continue up mountain pasture, where we see a nice little path that climbs cross-cutting. After a few minutes, the trail enters the forest, crosses a torrent and climbs to a viewpoint on a ridge where there is a crossroads.
Continue left up the grassy slope, in the middle of which you will see an arrow pointing to the right below the cliffs. Here, a marker on a rock for "Starhand" points to the right and the path climbs first through a short lane of forest and then along a ridge to a viewpoint.
