Koča na Pikovem - Dom na Peci (via saddle Vrh šteng)

Access to the starting point:
Take the road to Črna na Koroškem, then follow the signs for Podpeca and later Koča na Pikovem. Park in the parking lot near the Hut na Pikovem.

Path description:
From the parking lot, walk to the Church of St Helena and Koča na Pikovem, then after the church, turn left on the path towards Veliki vrh. The way ahead leads along a less good macadam road, first through the woods and then across meadows, which offer a beautiful view. Behind the farm Pik, the road changes to cart track, and at the edge of the forest, the path to Pikov vrh (also to Veliki vrh) branches off to the right. There is a short, folded climb through the forest and the path leads us to a sign where another of the paths to Pikov vrh branches off to the right, and we continue on the path, which gradually begins to descend gently.
We quickly arrive at a small crossroads, where we continue left (straight ahead on one of the paths to Mežica), and at the next crossroads we go straight ahead (right on Mežica).
The way forward leads us to the edge of a meadow, which opens up a beautiful view, and a little further on we return to the forest. Cross Jesenik, and when you reach the forest road, follow it to the right, and in a few minutes you will reach the Vrh šteng pass, where you will join the Mežica - Peca trail.
From the top of Šteng, continue in the direction of Dom na Peci and follow the road, which descends only slightly. The way ahead leads us over a short lookout, from where we have a beautiful view of the forested Jesenik and the surrounding hills, and past the former border guard post, which we pass on the lower side. A little beyond the guardhouse at Terčov, continue right on the marked cart track (turn right off the road, not the guardhouse), and after a short climb left on a marked footpath. Continue climbing through the forest, and quite quickly arrive at the edge of the larger mountain pasture Rišperk. Here the path turns slightly left and crosses a forest road a few times higher up. Stay on the road higher up and follow it across the slopes to the left to its end, or where it turns into cart track. With cart track a nice view opens up as far as Uršlja gora, and at Tomaževa koča, which is on the left below us, we merge with the path from Podpece.
From the crossroads, continue right towards Dom na Peci and then climb the rather steep cart track. Cart track, which then climbs mostly transversely to the left, then follow it all the way to Doma na Peci. Koča na Pikovem - Vrh šteng 45 minutes, Vrh šteng - Tomaževa koča 1:10, Tomaževa koča - Dom na Peci 50 minutes.
