Access to the starting point:
From Bovec or Tolmin, drive to Kobarid, where you head towards the Robič border crossing in the centre. Follow this road for only a few dozen metres to a parking area on the right side of the road, where there used to be a petrol station. During weekdays, the parking lot is often busy.
Path description:
From the parking lot, head back (east) to the crossroads in the centre of Kobarida. Go left at the junction and after a few metres you will see the sign "Chair 4h" on the left hand side. At the sign, continue right up the narrow road past the houses. The road soon ends and we continue along the footpath into the wods. After a short climb through the wods we come to a crossroads where we turn left towards Stol, and to the right the path leads towards Velikem Rob. As the path passes through the forest there is not much of a view, only occasionally you can see Kobarid and Krn through the branches. The path then leads past some ruins to a crossroads where it joins cart track. Turn left on cart track and climb past some old houses. Cart track soon ends and we continue on the footpath which leads to a crossroads. To the left, the path leads to the viewpoint at Hom (1015m), which is a 5-minute walk away.
Continue right along the marked path, which leads us in about 10 minutes to a ridge where the steepness eases and we also get a nice view of Kobarid and the surrounding peaks. The way forward is along the ridge, partly over grassy slopes, partly through sparse forest. Soon we come to a crossroads where we join the path from Stara Selo on the left and the path from Trnovo ob Soči on the right.
Continue along the grassy slopes past the shepherd's hut and the Starijski vrh hunting lodge. Shortly before the hunting lodge, our path joins a narrow mountain road which we follow to the beautifully arranged bivouac Hlek.

Discussion about the trail Kobarid - Bivak Hlek
starakapa12. 12. 2007
Že leta 2004 sem bil na Hleku in nadaljeval pot naprej proti Stolu in še naprej do zavetišča Musci.Kdor ima le čas naj nadaljuje pot preko Ribežnov in naprej do Musca,ne bo mu žal.Ko sem bil prvič v bivaku še ni bil tako opremljen kakor leta 2005 in sem nosil s seboj armaflex in spalko.

Par let nazaj sva z ženo obiskala ta bivak.
