Description: If you hike from the municipality of Wald (Switzerland) towards Bachtel, you will inevitably come across the legendary Bachtelspalt. The Bachtelspalt is a about fifty meters long earth fissure made of Nagelfluh rock. The walls of the fissure rise almost vertically up to eight meters high. According to numerous reports and stories, the Bachtelspalt is said to have formed in August 1939 during a severe thunderstorm. The lower entrance of the Bachtelspalt can be easily walked through. The upper part, however, becomes increasingly narrower and can only be traversed by 'slim' people. But even then only sideways and with a sucked-in stomach.
