Description: Zengő is the highest peak of Mecsek. It lies northeast of Pécs, in the least disturbed areas of East Mecsek, at 682 meters altitude. A rarely used local pronunciation variant of its name today is Zöngő, its medieval name was Vas-hegy. Folk tales, legends, and customs are associated with the mountain. Folklore explains its name by the roaring of the mountain caused by the shouts of treasure hunters trapped inside it, others believe the sound of the wind playing in the mountain's forests and valleys may be the origin.
