Beautiful autumn walk in the Tessa Group.
The Gorge of 1,000 Steps is located between Gasthaus Giggelberg and the Unterstell farmsteads, about halfway along the path, where the Rio Lana/Lahnbach has carved a deep gorge. Here one descends, crosses a suspension bridge, and climbs the other side of the gorge: a total of 987 steps over a 1.5 km stretch. It is one of the most beautiful and characteristic points of the Alta Via di Merano/Meraner Höhenweg.
