Description:
Iovan's Road is an asphalt road that climbs from the center of Horea commune, Alba county, to Petreasa, the site of the aviation accident on January 10, 2014, in which two people died. A commemorative cross was built at the accident site. Car access is from the center of Horea commune, following the signs for Iovan's Road. You climb a 9 km long asphalt road but narrow, with steep slopes and many curves. On the road you will pass through several mountain villages and you can admire special landscapes from Apuseni. The road climbs from 750m altitude to over 1600m, so it is a steep and winding road that tests your driving skills. On the road you can also stop at the place called Dâmbul lui Gâf, where you will find a rest area as well as a statuary complex. Here is an album with Dâmbul lui Gâf: https://clubapuseni.ro/dambul-lui-gaf-drumul-lui-iovan/ Once you reach Petreasa, you will find a parking lot where to leave the car. From there you still have to walk through the forest, on a forest road another 800m to the accident site. At the end of the asphalt road, Horea Commune City Hall has set up a picnic area, with grill, tables and benches, stove, spring. This is the place where the Lumberjack's Day was held in the past by the villagers from Horea. Starting in 2021, a cabin with a restaurant and a few accommodation places also operates in this place.
