Description: The first "winter Čop" is so far the longest and hardest story in our walls, and at the same time it is also one of the most beautiful deeds of the Slovenian Mountain Rescue Service. Seventy rescuers from all over Slovenia gathered in the avalanche-prone Triglav slopes, where it snowed mercilessly for five days, but three alpinists nevertheless happily shouted from the top of the wall after eight days. These were: Stane Belak – Šrauf, Aleš Kunaver and Anton Sazonov – Tonač. Stane Belak – Šrauf (1940–1995) was the first Slovene to reach the summit of the first Slovenian eight-thousander (Makalu 1975). Four years later he stood on the summit of Everest. Aleš Kunaver (1935–1984) was the leader of the first generation of Slovenian Himalayan climbers. He led six expeditions, during which in fifteen years (Trisul 1960 – Makalu 1975) our alpinists grew from Himalayan beginners into the world's best alpinism team. This achievement in the world history of alpinism has no equal. Anton Sazonov – Tonač (1937) is a mountain rescuer and mountain guide, he was a member of six expeditions to foreign mountains and leader of the expedition to Trisul and Spitzbergen.
