Cerro La Cruz is a good alternative for those looking to do a day trek; it is located in the Sierra de Ramón and offers several ascent routes. The most popular starts at Parque Mahuida; however, I prefer Quebrada de Macul because it features the company of sclerophyllous forest (typical of the central zone of the country), the river and its waterfalls, as well as Cajón del Muerto, a mid-mountain valley enclosed by the summits.
