On the website www.pzs.si it says all year that the hut is closed. Is that true?

Sorry to hear that. Too bad because I'm convinced that for any building it's better to have people in it, even just on weekends. And I think hikers wouldn't be lacking either. Thanks for the answer.

Triglavski, OK now I see myself what the possible misunderstanding might be. Last time when I planned a trip and looked at open huts in Slovenia, DPS on Kanin was closed. No, I'm not sure if it was July or August - more likely it was before (June???). Now the page looks like this, and I would walk towards Kanin so I'm interested if the hut is NOW open. Thanks for the answer and sorry for the confusion I caused with the clumsily posed question.

But not quite so. This is how the page www.pzs.si looks on 13.9.2009 at 14:45.

Friends of Triglav, you also have full support against the removal of Aljaž Tower from a mountaineer from Croatia (and I think I'm not the only one who thinks so).

Pretty impudent reply to people who tried to help you - now and for future tours.

I first touched it one gray and foggy day back in 1977. And it has stayed forever in me although due to various circumstances I didn't return as often as I myself would have wanted. Even then, more than thirty years ago, when we were one country and everything was "ours", there was no doubt - the tower was a symbol of Slovenia and the Slovenes. It is today too and I think its place is up there exactly where its builder placed it - not anywhere, but at the highest point of Slovenia. The idea to move it seems perverse to me. It needs restoration (but only using original methods and materials) so some other mountain lover over the next thirty years can remember it like this, real, and not just from pictures. Aljaž Tower in a museum is the same as a chamois in a zoo - a sad memory of lost beauty, freedom if you want, and lost dignity. And definitely protect it by all means from fools who disfigure and destroy it every year.

Yes, they have a discount just like Slovenian PD members have in Croatia.

From Crni Lug about 3.5 hours - not 2.5 (of course if not running in mountains). And also, pictures from last part of path if going from Gornje Jelenje you can see at: http://picasaweb.google.com/davor.bistra/Risnjak# I especially emphasize that it is still very possible to have lots of snow and ice on section from pic 4 to 6 in shade, facing north and - when snowy - quite exposed. Enjoy and safe path.

Yes and I forgot - pictures are excellent, just such that you get the will to go up there.

Mountain goat, thanks. Today morning at 4:30 when I started from Bistre the weather was very bad. Rain washed us 6 to Ivančna Gorica and we decided to leave narcissi and Golica in peace for a week or two. Turned to Bohinj and cable car to Vogel and wandered around towards Šija. Will upload pictures in a day or two. Thanks again.
