I've apparently caused some really interesting writing with my simple (maybe naive) question. eek
Meanwhile due to circumstances I kinda forgot about this thread, since we decided to postpone the trip to September and re-plan it to be suitable for people without winter gear and needed knowledge to use it, meaning we'll attack Oltar from Vrata.

Thanks to all who replied, both those who gave opinion in strange twisted way (and incidentally provided relevant info!), and those who took the question seriously (which it was) and warned about danger and ambiguity of previous replies. Result was really interesting, even philosophically tinted debate, in pure-blooded Slovenian style of course smile

From answers I conclude:
-conditions in Dnina still wintery and proper gear needed,
-approach to Oltar this way fu**** up and as naive unskilled hiker better worry about everything else than above point,
-end of August on any demanding pathless terrain conditions can always be wintery (with all respect dprapr but this seems slight exaggeration).

For final "twist" or explanation: plan was to hire guide for the trip who'd take me and one other person without winter knowledge and gear to Oltar. No one thought of that, ha?! cool

Maybe someone knows the conditions on the path through Dnina? Is there still a snowfield there, are crampons + ice axe needed?

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the replies. The decision is clear.

And my answer to redbull's question: both of us are experienced hikers and generally have no problems either with the difficulty of such routes or with orientation in the mountains. Precisely because of these experiences and the information about this notorious snowfield, I preferred to ask those who have already done it, so there are no unpleasant surprises and turning back cool

Hi, I'm wondering how deep/long this snowfield is? If you slip - is it over or do you just get a good scrape? nasmeh

I'm asking because I'd take someone who isn't really trained in using an ice axe and doesn't have proper crampons.

Thanks for the opinion.

28.6. to Rjavina via climbing route from Kot.

The path is well equipped with cables and pegs, but on the W side there are 2 fairly deep snowfields that require a short traverse (each 3-5 m). I didn't put on crampons, but the ice axe was quite useful for more stability and better feel.

I recommend ice axe and helmet for this route.

Yesterday I set off from Stara Fužina via Vogar along the ridge path towards Pršivec. Up to Kosijev dom the path is mostly dry, then the dry patches thin out and around 1200 m they disappear completely. To the junction between Pršivec and Pl. Viševnik someone had already broken trail, but there the trail ends (the road is also untouched). Snow at that point is about 20 cm.
Since I didn't have suitable gear (and no desire to break trail), I turned back too. mrk pogled
