Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora we drive towards Bovec or vice versa, but only to the Vršič pass, where we park.
Route description:
From the Vršič pass we turn onto the path in the direction of Slemenova špica, the Hanz path to Mala Mojstrovka and the Tamar valley (left Mala Mojstrovka - usual path) along the path that begins to ascend transversely to the right. During the ascent, which takes place along the slopes of Šitna glava, we cross several smaller scree fields and torrents, then the path from Erjavčeva koča at Vršič joins us from the right.
Here we continue straight and, passing a viewpoint a few meters away, we climb in a few minutes to the Vratca saddle (1799 m), where the next marked junction is.
To the left continues the secured climbing path to Mala Mojstrovka and an unmarked path towards Sleme, to the right branches off an unmarked but well-trodden path towards Prednje Robičje, and straight ahead continues the usual path towards Sleme and Slemenova špica.
This is followed by a short section of the path where we cross the slopes below Prednje Robičje, then the path gradually begins to descend towards the slopes above the Mala Pišnica valley. When we reach the mentioned slopes the path turns left, then continues with several shorter ascents and descents. In dry conditions the undemanding path takes us a little further to a junction, where the marked path from Tamar through Grlo joins us from the right, as well as an unmarked path through Mala Pišnica.
We continue in the direction of Slemenova špica along the path that continues to cross the slopes high above Mala Pišnica. With beautiful views that reach all the way to nearby Italy and Austria, we soon arrive at the slopes of Slemenova špica, where the slope, but not the path, levels out. This is followed by a short ascent, then we arrive at a less well-marked junction, where we continue slightly to the right (straight ahead leads the path towards Tamar - the path past Črne vode (even if we continue straight it is still possible to reach Slemenova špica)). After a few minutes of further ascent the path completely levels out, and we see smaller lakes in front of us and the famous view towards Jalovec. We bypass the lakes on the right side, or wherever we want, then, passing the inscription box, we climb in a few minutes to the scenic and precipitous summit of Slemenova špica.

Vršič pass - Vratca 0:35, Vratca - Čez Sleme 0:20, Čez Sleme - Slatnica 0:10, Slatnica - Slemenova špica 0:10.

Yesterday I was at Slemenova špica. The stamp ink is torn and dry. Otherwise everything ok. It took me with three children, aged 8, 5 and 3, 2 hours 9 min.
ašajt22. 10. 2017
Promised the friendly marker from PD Jesenice, who yesterday directed us lost souls to the right path towards Slemenova špica, to report on the status of the logbook - it is still at the top, yesterday it still had some blank pages, but given the number of visitors, they will probably run out soon. nasmeh
At the directions at the start of the path, a bit more caution is needed and start the path a bit more to the right, and not on the path to Mojstrovka, which yesterday confused quite a few of us zmeden jezik
otherwise a fantastic day illuminated by sun and incredible views velik nasmeh

Hello, has anyone been to Slemenova špica these days after the rain and snow on Sunday? What's the trail like, is there a lot of snow on it? And how are the larches, is there still anything on them or has it all fallen down? Thanks for the info nasmeh
Mojcamlakar29. 10. 2017
Slemenova špica on Saturday 28.10. Sunshine. Warm. On some places along the path compacted snow or icy. Need a bit more attention. Otherwise path mostly dry and ok. Snow higher up only on a few patches.nasmeh
Mojcamlakar29. 10. 2017
Forgot-larches have already dropped their needles.

It seems the path description and photos are a bit outdated. There are no fixed cables on the path, but there's one section that's not too easy for someone who walked there. This part is not in the photos, so the "EASY" label might be a bit exaggerated.
Darxta11. 09. 2018
The "easy" label refers to the PZS categorization:

(1) An easy mountain path is a mountain path intended for walking and recreational running, where the user does not need to use hands for protection or assistance in moving along it.
(2) An easy mountain path can generally also be used as a walking path.
(3) When an easy mountain path crosses a steep slope, it must be wide enough to allow safe walking even for less experienced users. They are only required to be careful, physically fit, and wear appropriate footwear.

Source: https://www.pzs.si/novice.php?pid=10730

So the "easy" label is appropriate.
Nordung12. 09. 2018
Thanks a lot for the explanation. But I still think this path is not entirely easy.

Enka12. 09. 2018
Nordung, are you sure you didn't stray from the path somewhere? On this path there really is no rock jump that couldn't be easily overcome...
Nordung15. 09. 2018
Everything is relative. I know people who casually bag several two-thousanders in a day. But I also know someone who couldn't get over an obstacle on this easy path.
zanccek19. 09. 2018
Hello, have the larches already retreated to their famous dens? nasmeh
janez.novak19. 09. 2018
You're a bit too early - wait until October
Jasna2616. 10. 2018
Hello, are the larches still colored or have they already dropped their needles?
garmont16. 10. 2018
Everything is glowing. nasmeh

The ascent to Slemenova špica on Tuesday was not feasible. There is no trodden path, with snowshoes it would be possible on the lower path. But the ascent to Sovna glava and Vršič summit is a pleasant winter tour. At Poštarski dom everything is trodden by visitors. Winter still reigns on Vršič.nasmeh

Slemenova Špica as a backup plan. Despite mass visits (mainly foreigners), nice. But you can avoid the crowd via the trail through scree past Hanzova trail. That's how we made a circular route. Fun!
Of course, there were tourists in sandals and sneakers with smooth soles going up in the worst heat. eek In general, bigger crowds in the afternoon than morning, similar to Mala Mojstrovka. zmeden
The sight of a father with one child in a backpack, the other girl barely climbing up in a dress and open sandals, as if in the city... jezen In such cases, our warnings are in place! I can't imagine how they got down. Strange that rescuers aren't needed more often...
georgia27. 07. 2019
Ah, if everything is parked at Vršič, you can park in front of Erjavčeva hut, where the trail to Slemenova špica also starts and joins the main trail higher up. There is no crowd on this section from Erjavčeva either. mežikanje
Macesen194. 10. 2019
Hello, has anyone been to SŠ recently? I'm wondering if the larches are already colored?
Naprosyn5. 10. 2019
The experienced mountaineer Instagram says they are. nasmeh
GregorC5. 10. 2019
They are coloring. Some already are, most not yet. But soon.
julius5. 10. 2019
Are the "little lakes" also dry without water this year??
GregorC6. 10. 2019
Yes. And overgrown.
zanccek11. 10. 2019
Hi, how do the larches look, has anyone been up there already? any recent pictures possible?
Macesen1914. 10. 2019
Larches are already nicely colored nasmeh
solsticij5. 10. 2020
What's the situation like? Still any snow? Larch coloring?
mosovnik6. 10. 2020
On 01.10 there was about 20-30 cm, in shade even more, larches still green.
Good luck
Veselaplaninka7. 10. 2020
Does anyone know the current conditions? Is there still any snow?nasmeh
parenzo8. 10. 2020
At Poštarski dom there are two webcams that could show the approximate conditions on nearby peaks, but unfortunately they are pointed at the sky...

Hey, has anyone gone on this trail in the last few days?
miri2. 01. 2021
Are you kidding?
redbull2. 01. 2021
you should ask under forum conditions, not here under the trail description
jetam8126. 10. 2021 16:49:28
Is it already snow-covered?

Maybe someone knows what the conditions are like to Slemenova špica? Thanks
golica5. 10. 2022 11:17:21
One classic question, are the larches already yellow, turning yellow, or is it still too early? Thanks
golica5. 10. 2022 14:34:19
thanks, we know everythingnasmeh
ljubitelj gora6. 10. 2022 23:28:03
There around 20:10
tango26. 09. 2023 20:28:51
So the day wasn't too poorly used, after returning from Prisojnik we went for a walk to Slemenova špica, where the atmosphere was quite different. Lots of visitors. Blueberries are already nicely red and when the larches glow too, a repeat will be necessary!
marija963. 10. 2023 12:15:25
Are the larches already colored? Thanks
ppegan3. 10. 2023 15:44:25
It's still a bit early, and the cameras show green larches wink
AlesV622. 11. 2024 06:50:58
How is parking at Vršič and until what time do you need to be at the pass to get a safe (paid) parking spot?
bongo2. 11. 2024 14:13:25
Parking at Vršič is free (for now), paid is in front of Erjavčeva koča. Since the larches have done their thing, it probably doesn't matter when you arrive up there.
AlesV624. 11. 2024 08:14:30
So they've already cleared the needles?
sh4. 11. 2024 17:36:05
The larches on Slemenova špica are completely bare. They were still beautiful on Thursday at the viewpoint on Prisank, by the road.
AlesV6212. 08. 2025 20:35:35
Just asking experienced ones for opinion, this year at the beginning of October I want to go to Slemenova špica to see yellow-colored larches. When is the best time, first or second weekend (Friday to Saturday) in October? Thanks.
KorošcVhribih16. 10. 2025 20:15:34
Hello, is the road to Vršič open?
