Access to starting point:
First, we drive to Tolmin, from there we follow the road in the direction of Zatolmin (we leave the main road at the traffic light). In Zatolmin we notice the hiking signposts for Javorca, which direct us onto the ascending road towards Javorca. The occasionally quite narrow and in places precipitous road brings us after approximately 8 km of driving to a smaller intersection, where the road towards Javorca branches off to the left upwards. Here we turn left and follow the road for another good 100 meters to the marked parking lot.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue on a concrete road, which quickly enters the forest and starts to ascend steeply. After approximately 15 minutes of walking, the forest gets thinner, and the road turns sharply to the right. There follow only a few minutes of walking by the edge of pastures and the road brings us to the memorial church of the Holy Spirit on Javorca.

Discussion about the trip Planina Polog - Javorca (by road)

It will go smoothly, the road is in good condition, just need to check when logging is taking place, there are closures.

Is car access possible to the chapel? I'd like to drive a person there who moves with crutches. Thanks!
miri4. 08. 2018
Possible due to the road itself, however the road is prohibited for traffic.
But with a kind word you can get to the very steps to the chapel. Just courageously and luckily.

I would not recommend driving on this road. The road is very narrow, only wide enough for one car. Rocks fall on the road at steeper sections, also logs were on the road that they cut to make the road passable. On the right side there is a deep abyss. When meeting an oncoming car on the opposite side, on certain sections there is not even enough space. There is no fence along the road and you have to be careful not to skid into the abyss. You also need to be careful in winter when the road is icy!

No, no, it's not so bad that I would advise against driving on this road. Of course, the assessment of passability depends on the individual. You definitely need to be careful, especially be polite and patient when meeting. There are enough pullouts on the road. And of course the car has reverse gear.

Let me add what I know. In November we had a trip to that area and I inquired beforehand about the road's passability, namely I had seen that the road is closed to all traffic. The situation is that somewhere in the middle there is an active landslide, where about 300m3 of earth is just waiting to slide onto the road and into the valley. The crack above is supposedly already 40cm wide and given the configuration of clearly visible sliding planes it's really not healthy to drive there especially during and right after rain and during thaws, everything else is more in the area of "reasonable" riskzavijanje z očmi. The rest of the road is like most there; to Ravne, to Čadrg, Kneške Ravne...

Road reopened.

The road Zatolmin -> Javorca is closed to all traffic.

Is the road to Planina Polog drivable? Or did someone perhaps use the village Čadrg as a starting point to Javorca?
docepe210. 08. 2020
We drove up on Friday and down on Saturday. To planina Polog it's normally drivable, on the weekend there's a traffic prohibition sign, although there were quite a few cars up there. From planina Polog, where there's a pasture fence, there's again a prohibition sign, but they drove even further up. One slightly higher car was even at LD above the planina under Osojnica.

Hi, I'd like to ask about the drivability of the road to the starting point for the church at Javorca? Would it work with an Opel Corsa? In 2018 I read it did, what's the condition now? nasmeh Thanks and best regards!

The problem with the road to Javorca is that it's very narrow and in many places there's no passing place for two cars. For now you can still drive to Javorca, but in summer only with public transport. Well, it's also possible by bike or on foot.velik nasmeh

It's not that devilish. Of course it's narrow and dangerous in some places, but two smart and considerate ones can meet. There are huge numbers of such and similar roads in our area.
lubadar4. 06. 2022 07:41:15
I go up there with a van and have always come back.mežikanje
Laščan1. 11. 2024 13:27:29
I don't see how it is now with public transport. Is it then allowed with a private car? And the condition of the road: asphalt-gravel-poor gravel?
turbo1. 11. 2024 13:40:49
The road should be open to public traffic, what condition the gravel is in, I wouldn't know:
