Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled and further towards Bohinjska Bistrica. Continue driving towards Bohinjsko jezero (Ribčev Laz), where you reach a junction and continue straight on the left (southern) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanc and Slap Savica. Follow this increasingly narrow road to the large parking lot at Koča pri Savici. The parking lot is paid.
Route description:
From the parking lot, head onto the wide footpath in the direction of Slap Savica and Dom na Komni (right path over Komarča). After a short gentle ascent, the path reaches a marked junction where the tourist path to Slap Savica branches off to the right; continue slightly left or straight on the wide footpath towards Komna. The path continues to ascend briefly along the Savica, then reaches the first of the marked 48 switchbacks. After an hour and a half of moderate ascent through the forest, the path arrives at the mentioned 48th switchback, from which a beautiful view opens onto Bohinjsko jezero. Here the path turns slightly right and enters the valley called Pekel, where it ascends gently for a while, then turns right and ascends somewhat steeper again. After just a few dozen steps, the path turns left again and continues ascending parallel to the valley. The gentle to moderately steep path gradually transitions into sparser forest, from which Dom na Komni is soon visible. The path continues past a small interesting cave; higher up it reaches a junction where the path to Črno jezero branches off to the right, continue left on the wide path. Some traversing ascent follows; at the natural abyss (fenced for safety) the path turns right, then ascends to the next junction where the path from Črno jezero joins.
A little further ahead the path splits again; choose the left path towards Dom na Komni (straight to Koča pod Bogatinom, right to Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih).
The ascent continues past the bajta Pri Hubertu, and in a few minutes you reach Dom na Komni.
Starting point - junction to Črno jezero 2:15, junction to Črno jezero - Memorial plaque to Matej Koblar 0:10, Memorial plaque to Matej Koblar - Dom na Komni 0:05.

Along the route: Jama ob poti na Komno (1303m), Odcep k Črnemu jezeru (1411m), Brezno pod lovsko kočo na Komni (1430m), Spominska plošča Mateju Koblarju (1481m), Pri Hubertu (1492m)

Dom na Komni is really worth visiting. This trip is very nice. The path can drag on due to countless switchbacks, but the path is easy and suitable for both young and older.

The path to Komna is one of the easiest orientation paths we have, so follow the markers boldly. It's really worth it.

We want a two-day trip from Koča pri Savici over Komna to Krn. We would reach there in one day, but don't know where to go next. The path should not be demanding and as close as possible to the starting point. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Back over the lake to Lužnica in Zatolmin from where it's another hour's walk to the train (Most na Soči). The train takes you to Bohinjska Bistrica and from there hitchhike to the car.

The trail is extremely beautiful, especially in winter when the trail is trodden (don't forget sunglasses). It's worth going on this trip, because it is not demanding technically or physically either.

Does anyone know how difficult the path is compared to e.g. Golica?
| Gost4. 07. 2007 |
The path is completely undemanding, here and there you just need to watch your step a bit so as not to trip over some rock or root, and at a few places the trail narrows to a narrow path and that's all.

It's worth going to Komna for the great views, and the path is also easy (it does drag on a bit) It's also worth going to the hut under Bogatin, about 15 min from Dom na Komni! Have a nice trip! Nina

Just yesterday we walked this path from Komna to the Koča pri Savici, the path is nice just that it drags on a lot.

Yesterday we went to Komna from Savica. The path to the hut is nicely passable, not much snow, from the hut onwards gaiters are highly recommended. Weather perfect, as it will be today, tomorrow and probably Saturday too. Nice regards!

Can someone tell me what the path to Komna is like? Is there still a lot of snow? Along the whole path or just at the top?

| Planinček7. 04. 2008 |
On Saturday I was up there. The path is well trodden, but in the upper part there is almost 2m of snow. Snow starts soon, but there's a lot of it from the 48th serpentine onwards.

Smoki, how much snow is on the path and on the summit?

Usually it's about a centimeter more than on Vogel. Last month when I was on Komna and Lanževica there was about 4 meters. Around 3.5m at the hut I'd say. Yeah really nice up there - but these days it's more south-facing. In the lower part there's even less.

Yesterday I was here on the way to the Valley of Triglav Lakes. I was pleasantly surprised because the hut was full of hikers. So it really paid off to renovate the hut. The hike is quite pleasant and serves perfectly well also as a final destination.

I'm interested if anyone happens to know how passable the path to Komna is, is it trodden or more crusty? I'll be very happy for all information.

| studencnik2. 02. 2010 |
I recommend snowshoes in case the path is not trodden, but I'd say it's almost certainly trodden to the Dom na Komni hut, onwards no. At least that's how it was before Saturday's snowfall.

| NinaR7. 02. 2010 |
Hello, I was on Komna on 4.2., the path from Savica was already well packed by ski tourers, and with friends we additionally compacted it on foot. It went without special equipment, just gaiters will come in handy and of course poles with larger baskets.

| živica9. 02. 2010 |
I was on Komna yesterday, 8.2.2010. The trail is excellently trodden, except a little below the summit where the snow is softer and sinks a bit more, otherwise everything is super, nice weather, good company... I recommend crampons... it goes much easier, and gaiters are nice if you have them.

I really like the trip to Komna, especially for a family outing, as the path is not dangerous, but you still feel like you're in real mountains and not on Šmarna gora (I have nothing against Šmarna gora!). Once I walked it even at night without a headlamp, and luckily I had no orientation problems. Does anyone perhaps know what the conditions are like on the path to Komna when snow falls - it probably gets trodden quickly.
| viharnik8. 11. 2010 |
The path to Komna gets trodden quickly, unless there is a huge amount of snow. Then you need to watch out for the section of the Pekel rocks (before the last leveling, where Komna appears at 1250m), it can get icy there.

| griček31. 01. 2011 |
As I see from comments, the path to Komna is usually trodden... Does anyone know how it is further to the hut at Triglav Lakes?
| Flora131. 01. 2011 |
Usually it's not trampled. You definitely need snowshoes and good terrain knowledge. Given that you've now found out that the path to Komna is trampled, I advise you to set that as your first goal, and for Triglavska take an expert with you some other time. Good luck.

| lukapet28. 12. 2011 |
Was there yesterday, I didn't need them. Maybe the small crampons would be useful for the last third (snow is not icy, maybe some section), lower down there is almost no snow or it's mixed with leaves and rocks.

| _sandra_29. 12. 2011 |

Has anyone been up there recently? Is the path OK and crampons not needed?
| MHeberle7. 03. 2012 |
No more snow on the mule track, only at the end of the mule track snow starts when you're already almost at the top of the mule track. So crampons are recommended for the backpack.

I'm going to Komna with my husband this weekend, so we don't have to carry sandwiches - do they have anything good to eat in the hut ?

Last time I ate there was in November, first day barley soup and second day struklji and everything was excellent.
| slamca9. 03. 2012 |
well, I don't know if it's really that good. Basically, the food (I know about the jota, barley soup and cabbage) has too much pepper and that does its thing. They don't skimp on it

Tour for small and big. I'm surprised that such a flat trail exists in the Julian Alps. But it drags on like a chicken's gut... By the way, from the top down it says you reach Savica in an hour and a half. Unrealistic, unless you run down. In fast walking you still need two hours.

Does anyone know the current conditions, is it possible without crampons?

Throw those small ones in your backpack, what does it cost you. We went without, but we had boots with "studs", I'm talking about last week though.
| MartinaP4. 01. 2013 |
Well well expert, you're exaggerating a bit with the time. If you have at least some fitness, with fast walking you get up in an hour and a half. My record is one hour ten minutes... without shortcuts and running. But to not go completely off topic... crampons in the backpack, safety first.

Hi, today with wife to the top. The path is somewhat icy in places around halfway. From halfway onwards there's snow, but no problem as it's well trodden. We had crampons with us, but not needed!

Hi! I'm wondering if this trail is passable considering the recent ice storm.
| pemi10. 05. 2014 |
Today I was on Komna, the path is totally passable, below the summit still quite some snow.. But I was horrified on the way back, some obviously take our mountains as a joke, literally in flip-flops, jeans and short sleeves, without a drop of water some decide to "assault" the hill.. horror- I should add they were foreigners

10 days ago it was like this: http://www.hribi.net/trenutnerazmere.asp?slo=1&gorovjeid=1&id=6468 Snow started above the 10th serpentine. The path well trodden and due to low temperature mostly very hard. Probably now the snow has receded a few more serpentines higher. Above the serpentines there was still a lot of snow. Where the sun shone on it, softer and mushy, on shady spots frozen. Crampons at least on descent don't hurt. Many locals were equipped with them. I crunched along with snowshoes.

Maybe this information will be useful to someone, at the parking lot by Savica they charge parking - 6 EUR for 4 hours or more. Absurd!

Eternal topic.......parking fee. I thought we Gorenjci were the most "stingy" nation in Slovenia. Leave your car at Zlatorog and walk to Savica and onwards carefree and you have 6€ in your pocket for a beer at Komna.

I have a better proposal, don't go at all to places where they want to rip you off at every corner and that's it.

Those who want to avoid being ripped off be at the parking lot before 6:00 - at least on Saturdays and Sundays.

| Andrejja20. 07. 2016 |
is the path suitable for a 4-year-old? with a little carrying of course ;-) as for parking, the "most friendly" parking meter at the parking lot near Stara Fužina, we could write in big letters that it doesn't give change...definitely the most expensive parking so far LOL
| Barentoter20. 07. 2016 |
The path is quite long for a four-year-old, but feasible. I would rather choose an excursion that would be more interesting for children. For example through the Born tunnels to Planina Preval. You walk through tunnels (with a flashlight), pleasant little forest, cows on the pasture.
| simon7920. 07. 2016 |
Andrejja, I think the path is suitable, provided it's not exactly his first time hiking I myself have a 4-year-old girl, she would walk it, just with a bit of proper motivation and more shorter breaks (she has already hiked up for two and a half hours, elevation gain 700m, on the way down I carried her half the way). Probably some carrying will be needed, depending on how much mileage she has under her belt Good luck!
| simon7920. 07. 2016 |
I also agree with Barentoter - this path is one of the most boring ones I've walked. For fun you can count all the switchbacks to the top...
| GregorD21. 07. 2016 |
Andrejja, today we hiked this trail with a 4-year-old without problems. We didn't carry him either, except for about 10m through nettles on the way down. But it's true: - the child needs mileage (this year we have about 13 hiking/mountain days) - he needs constant motivation - breaks must be more frequent than for adults (we said every 12 hairpins). To the hut we took 3:15. - uphill we occasionally held his hand, downhill that's usual practice in our family. The hike was spiced up for the kids by a frog, chamois and viper. Regarding parking: they charged us already at 6:45. So, go ahead boldly. If it doesn't work, turn back and try again another time.

Hello, can someone perhaps tell me what and how long the path from Dom na Komni to Črno jezero and further to Planina pri Jezeru is? Actually this loop interests me: Dom na Komni -> Črno jezero -> Planina pri Jezeru -> Vogar -> Stara Fužina ... If someone knows, tell something about difficulty and length, I'll be grateful. Thanks.
| B212. 08. 2016 |
Komna - Črno jezero: Length 3340 m, total ascent length 1358 m, total descent length 1880 m. Net ascent 198 m, descent 304 m, walking time 1:45 hours. Črno jezero - Bregarjevo zavetišče (Viševnik): Length 2070 m, total ascent length 1800 m, total descent length 270 m. Net ascent 324 m, descent 25 m, walking time 1:20 hours. Bregarjevo zavetišče - Planina pri Jezeru: Length 890 m, total ascent length 205 m, total descent length 680 m. Net ascent 25 m, descent 125 m, walking time 25 minutes. Planina pri Jezeru - Vogar: Length 4020 m, total ascent length 1430 m, total descent length 2690 m. Net ascent 190 m, descent 560 m, walking time 2:15 hours. Vogar - Stara Fužina: Length 2020 m, total ascent length 270 m, total descent length 1755 m. Net ascent 15 m, descent 430 m, walking time 1 hour. All sections of the listed hiking trails are classified as easy. From these data you can calculate the total length of the path as well as the height of ascents and descents and their lengths and walking times on individual sections yourselves.

Does anyone perhaps have information about the path to Komna and further to Bogatinsko sedlo. Start from Savica. Thanks.
| Pelca10. 05. 2017 |
MitjaBelak: from the Koča na Komni you reach Bogatinsko sedlo in about an hour along the marked path past Koča na Bogatinu. Ascent is about 300 metres, length approx. 4 km.
I have a question, where is it more worthwhile to eat and/or sleep: Bogatin or Komna?
| mukica10. 05. 2017 |
Koča pod Bogatinom is still closed, it opens sometime in the second half of June... at Komna the cook Vida or someone else prepares good stuff
| B210. 05. 2017 |
Koča pod Bogatinom opens on 15 June. Dom na Komni is open all year. Regarding food, I don't think there's much difference between Komna and Bogatin, but accommodation is much more comfortable under Bogatin than in Dom na Komni (clean and newly equipped, very tidy rooms. Peace, because no crowds)... For the hike to Bogatinsko sedlo it takes a bit more than an hour. Indeed, the path length Komna - Bogatinsko sedlo (Dom na Komni 1527m asl) - 4323m - Bogatinsko sedlo (1812m asl) - elevation difference 276m and walking time approx. 2h.
| Enka10. 05. 2017 |
From Dom na Komni to Bogatinsko sedlo is 1h walk, with a stop for photos say 1h 15min. More than that no. For sleeping I'd definitely choose Koča pod Bogatinom.

Does anyone perhaps know what the conditions are like or if the path is trodden? Best regards

Hikers go to Komna every day. The best information will be known by the hut keeper Herman, you can find the phone number on the PZS website. Happy trails!

I don't know why one has to get information along the line of least resistance. Nobody knows how to inquire anymore, or rather doesn't want to, how it is. In two days there will be the same question again. YES, it is trodden.

On 27.12.2019 the path was beautiful, a little snow at the top, which had already started melting due to the beautiful weather. For the descent crampons were almost mandatory. Otherwise an easy path and at the hut they have an assistant (a cat).

How much snow is there currently on the path to Komna and at the top? ...has anyone been up there in the last week? 14 days?

Lower on the path it alternates between bare ground and ice, higher up hard snow. On Komna about half a meter, in places even more.

Snow starts at the 26th hairpin, lower a bit of ice. On Komna about 40cm of snow. Was there yesterday.

Yesterday along this path to Komna and then to the hut via the Bogatin path. Very nice trip. Praise to the hut staff for their friendliness.

Hello! I'm interested in how much walking there is on the Komna-Črno jezero-hut at Triglav Lakes route?

3-4 hours. The connection via the Razor and Lopučnica pastures is much nicer, and also slightly shorter time-wise.

What about the difficulty? I have 4- and 7-year-old children.

Technically both variants are completely undemanding, but due to the length alone, one should consider how suitable it is for such young children.

Sleeping at the Seven Lakes is planned. I'm not worried about fitness, we spend a lot of time in the mountains. It was a mistake, they are 5 and 7 years old.

Yesterday, 20.7., we went to Komna. For a Monday there were quite a lot of people. Friendly service. Trail without special features. Children found the switchbacks interesting. From the hut there were beautiful views in all directions. Photos are in the "conditions" section. Nice mountain greetings

tomorrow (18.2.) I would set off on this path to Komna, and I'm curious about the conditions regarding avalanches. Please more experienced ones for opinion... thanks

It will have to snow quite a bit for there to be avalanche danger on the path. There was practically no precipitation on Saturday. Good luck

Are crampons needed or are straps sufficient? Thanks for the reply

For Komna small crampons usually suffice, at this time probably even unnecessary.

Do they charge parking in winter too?

Outside season they don't charge. On Oct 17 no sign of cashiers. LP

In winter, you have to watch out for the rangers in that area.

Lop, straps are generally sufficient to reach the hut, but you can obviously use ice axe and crampons to reach the top of the mountain.

Hello, does anyone have information on the parking fee at the starting point for Komna? Thank you for the answer, Alen

Today no one collected the parking fee. It was the same 3 weeks ago. Regards.

Excellent trip today on this trail to the hut, then also to Bogatina. The switchbacks on the way back are endlesssss. And I went to see the waterfall after a long time. Our mountains are beautiful.

Even today before 7am they weren't collecting parking fees. In the afternoon when I came back, though.

https://youtu.be/WVx-X7amvJA?si=7D9ufvU4DMCAuvbk Recorded two days ago. The winter variant of this trail is idyllic ❄️ Safe from avalanches, trodden, not too steep... only to Komna it's meditative (read boring 😂). But in good company time passes faster, right? My friend and I extended it to the hut under Bogatin. Recommended ❄️🧤🧣

Nina, which is the summer variant?

| A.D.K.26. 02. 2025 12:45:15 |
In winter and summer you go the same trail, even if there's snow "on the road". She probably meant as "winter variant" that the trail is covered in snow. But currently there's really just a sample of snow, so it's not exactly representative of a "winter variant". Otherwise, conditions are posted on the forum: https://www.hribi.net/trenutne_razmere/slo/komna/1/850
