Access to starting point:a) Leave the Gorenjska motorway at the Lesce exit, then follow signs for Bled and Pokljuka. Continue driving through Gorje and past the Zatrnik ski slope to Rudno polje on Pokljuka, where there is a large paid parking lot, nearby also a military barracks and shooting range. From here continue straight on the gravel road, which a bit further brings us to a junction, where we continue right (left Uskovnica). Follow this road to the former parking lot Za Ribnico, located at the end of the road (nearby are mountain signs for planina Konjščica).
Now parking at the end of the road is prohibited, so park already at Rudno polje, which extends the route by about 40 minutes, but it is more appropriate to choose the marked path that starts already at Rudno polje.
b) From Železniki or Podbrdo drive to Bohinjska Bistrica, then continue driving towards Bled. Shortly after the Petrol gas station, located just after Bohinjska Bistrica, continue left towards Pokljuka and Jereka. The road first ascends steeply, then after Koriti gradually flattens and brings us to a junction at the bus stop, where we continue right towards Pokljuka, Koprivnik and Jereka (straight Srednja vas). Immediately after the junction we arrive at Jereka, but from the junction in front of the church continue straight towards Pokljuka (left Podjelje). After Jereka the road starts ascending more steeply again, higher it flattens and continues along the Mrzli potok stream. When joining the road from Bled go left and drive to Rudno polje, where there is a large paid parking lot, nearby also a military barracks and shooting range.
Traffic regime in the Pokljuka and Uskovnica area from 15.6. to 15.10.
Route description:
From the former parking lot at the end of the road, continue on the wide and initially ascending cart track towards planina Konjščica. The cart track, which immediately enters dense forest, soon flattens and after a few minutes of easy walking turns into a footpath that continues along the left bank of the Ribnica stream. When the path gets close to the stream, it turns slightly right and ascends more steeply. Higher up, the path flattens and leads us from the forest to the lower edge of the vast planina Konjščica. Here the path turns slightly left, crosses a streamlet and after a few more steps brings us to the cheese dairy on planina Konjščica.
From the cheese dairy, continue on the pleasant path that in a few minutes of gentle ascent brings us to the upper edge of the planina. Here the path enters a belt of dwarf pines and shrubs and gradually starts ascending more steeply. In the upper part of the ascent towards Jezerce, the path from Rudno polje joins from the right, we continue straight on the moderately steep path that in a few more minutes of walking brings us to Jezerce, where the path flattens and turns left (here the path to Srenjski preval branches right).
Follows easy walking to a sign indicating the central area of TNP, then the path begins to ascend moderately along a torrent, initially still a streamlet. Higher up, the path crosses to the right side of the torrent (viewed from the ascent direction) and then transversely ascends to Studorski preval, where a demanding path from Srenjski preval joins from the right.
From the pass, from where a nice view opens to the Bohinj side, continue straight (left Ablanca, right Veliki Draški vrh and sharply right Srenjski preval) on the path that starts descending and after a few steps turns right. Follows a short descent, then the path continues traversing, first the slopes below Veliki Draški vrh and later Tosc. When we reach the bare southern slopes of Tosc we come to a small junction, where an unmarked path to Tosc branches right (the junction to Tosc is marked, but the path to it is not). Just a few steps further, the path from Uskovnica joins quite unobtrusively from the left.
Continue straight on the scenic path that starts turning more to the right, while transitioning to increasingly steep slopes of Tosc. Further on we reach an artificially carved rock ledge, over which runs a wide path exposed to falling rocks (caution - active rockfall!). We cross the mentioned ledge in a slight descent, then the path turns left and for a short time ascends on a somewhat narrower path. Further the path flattens and transitions to less steep slopes. Just a little further we reach a marked junction, where the path from Voje valley joins from the left.
Continue straight towards Vodnikov dom (slightly left Velo polje) on the easy path, from which soon a nice view of Triglav opens. The path further returns under the slopes of Tosc and across scree slopes brings us in a few minutes to Vodnikov dom na Velem polju.
Start - Planina Konjščica 0:30, Planina Konjščica - Klanci 0:40, Klanci - Jezerce 0:05, Jezerce - Studorski preval 0:30, Studorski preval - Planina Zgornji Tosc 0:35, Planina Zgornji Tosc - Na Zagonu 0:20, Na Zagonu - Vodnikov dom 0:20.

Along the route: Planina Konjščica (1427m), Klanci (1678m), Jezerce (1719m), Izvir pod Studorskim prevalom (1746m),
Studorski preval (1892m), Planina Zgornji Tosc (1849m), Na Zagonu (1819m)

Discussion about the trip Konec ceste na Pokljuki - Vodnikov dom

Pleasant tour. The trail newly arranged with scree steps almost the entire way. Extremely commendable. That's how mountain trails should be maintained. Podor is a bit scary to look at, but there's a warning sign on the wall for danger. Excellent atmosphere in the hut. Lots of guests, many foreigners, which is especially pleasing. On the way back, we spotted a wedding in the grassy basin of Jezerce. In the foreground a priest in white, guests sitting on the grass. Magnificent and unusual event.

Please help. Since I want to do a circular tour in the Julians, and take Pokljuka as starting point, I'm wondering if there's a bus going there at all. I searched the whole (maybe not?) internet and found - nothing. As if AP Pokljuka no longer exists... Thanks.

As far as I know only the so-called "ski bus" runs from Bled during the ski season or winter holidays. There is no regular bus line here (anymore). LP Heinz!

Really commendable for the maintained path towards Studorski preval. Today it was hot as hell, even though I went very early. I recommend a helmet on that section where there was the landslide or at least very careful walking. Right in front of me were two hikers and they barely escaped falling rocks.

Today I repeated this beloved tour again. On the return I detoured to Tošc as well, a pleasant tour finale. Not all is Triglav, today there was reportedly a big crowd among hikers. Hikers seize every nice day, which today undoubtedly was.

Great tour, just wanted to point out to the path describer that from Studorski preval to Vodnikov dom it's 1.5 hours of walking and not 1 hour as described, which is also evident from the signpost at Studorski preval. I recommend it to everyone who likes walking in the mountains without too much effort. Total walking thus 3.5 hours one way.

I'm interested if anyone has been around Vodnikov dom these days and perhaps knows if it's already open. I'm checking the alpine association page and it says it's still closed (but general info says it opens mid-June), however it says the same for some other hut where on another page it says it's already open; so I don't know which info is accurate. Planika interests me too. Thanks in advance for the info I need for the beginning of next week.

Yes, I'm also heading up there at the end of the month, mainly to see the natural arboretum of mountain vegetation under the hut at Velem polju. I hope the hut will be open by then.

Anyone have an idea for a 3-day tour that's not exactly Triglav? One night at Vodnikov dom, second day summit Tosc, then continue to another hut to overnight there? I need an idea for a 3-day tour, not too difficult , so that on the third day I return only to the road on Pokljuka

Um... maybe both Tosc-both Draška vrhova-Lipanca-Debela peč? That would be quite nice, although I think it's just not for three days. Or some wandering in Fužinske planine with overnight at Pri jezeru, Prehodavci or Dolič (more strenuous, fewer beautiful peaks, certainly not a tour to my taste, I don't know what you prefer).

Correction: of course only one Tosc, not both

I'm interested in your experiences with leaving cars on Pokljuka? Is it safe?

|
| nejka4027. 08. 2013 |
From my experience it's safe, I myself left my car there for three days and everything was fine. Generally I don't hear of break-ins into cars, but you never know, good luck anyway

I'm interested in the trail from Vodnikov dom to Blejska koča. Is it a demanding trail? How many hours should I plan? Thanks to all hikers for the answer!

Hiked on Monday. Plan 5 hours. Between Studorski and Srenjski preval there are two options. 1. Without altitude loss, the trail to Srenjski preval is about 15 minutes along rocky ledges with fixed cables. This section is demanding. 2. To descend from Studorski preval to Jezerca and ascend to Srenjski preval means descending about 200 m and ascending back 250 m. The rest of the trail is a nice walk.

Hi, can you tell me if it's possible to ascend from Vodnikov dom to Tosc (without going back to Studorski preval), or vice versa - if one can descend directly from Tosc to Vodnikov dom? Thanks!

Yes, via Bohinjska vrata. It's quite steep and requires some easy climbing, but if you find the right passage, it's not that difficult. See the description in Habjan's Brezpotja.

If you find the right way and have experience with harder, more demanding pathless terrain, the lower grade II must be familiar to you and no less in demanding terrain; otherwise you're quickly in considerable trouble.

I'm wondering if it's possible to drive by car to the end of the road to drop off hikers and then return to the parking lot? Is the road also closed? Thank you!

The road is not closed, only parking is prohibited.
