Access to starting point:
Between Trenta and Bovec, in the village of Soča, a road branches off to Lepena. We follow this fully asphalted road to the parking lot at the mountain hut Dom v Lepeni.
Route description:
From the Dr. Klement Jug House in Lepena we continue on a wide marked path in the direction of the Krn Lakes. After a few minutes of walking, the wide and not too steep path splits into two parts. The left one, which is somewhat steeper, is the usual one; the right one, gentler and somewhat longer, is suitable for small children and the elderly. Both paths ascend mostly through the forest to the upper station of the cargo cableway and cross each other several times along the way. From the upper station of the cargo cableway, we continue on the same path, which gently ascends along the wide transport road that quickly brings us to the snow height measurement (every year in April). From here the road starts to descend and brings us quickly past the turn-off to Velika Baba to the next junction, where we leave the road and continue left downhill on the footpath that in a few minutes brings us to the mountain hut Dom pri Krnskih jezerih (if we continue on the road, we bypass the mountain hut).
From the mountain hut we continue straight in the direction of Krn and Krn Lake on a gentle path to which soon joins the path that bypasses the mountain hut. We continue past the shepherd's hut, behind which we arrive at the next junction, where we again continue in the direction of Krn (left to Bogatin, Mali Šmohor and Dom na Komni).
The gentle path then brings us after a further few minutes to the pearl of the Krn mountain range. In front of us we see Krn Lake and beside it inviting meadows for resting.

Planning to go to Krnsko jezero with kids tomorrow.
Does anyone know about the snow and conditions?
Many thanks.
mirank29. 06. 2014
If you're going to the mountains with kids, it's good to check at the right place, e.g. by phone at the hut. Otherwise check this forum under current conditions-Krnsko jezero, you'll see the note that the path is snow-free.
gamsek22. 12. 2014
Hi.
Can someone tell me if there's any snow on the path to the lake? Thanks. LP.

I strongly doubt it, at most some patch.

Tomorrow we plan to go to Krn Lakes, are we too late for the "real autumn idyll" in terms of autumn colors, larch coloring?
thanks
nacka.25. 10. 2019
On Wednesday I was hiking around Vršič, I was at Slemenova Špica, and around there there are still plenty of golden trees, both larches and beeches. Really less than last week, when my husband and I went towards Mojstrovka (not to the top, because we doubted our fitness and it would be irresponsible to walk a path where the step was no longer secure) - but I'm sure you'll enjoy the wealth of autumn colors and the thoughts of the tour will warm you even in winter, even if you're not sitting by a warm fireplace.

I wish you a nice hike and greet you warmly,

Nacka

Tomorrow I plan to go to Krnsko jezero. What's the path like? Are crampons needed? Thanks
Kleemen15. 04. 2020
What is the current situation at Krnsko jezero? Given that the hut is not open, is it possible to get the SPP stamp or is it usually at the hut? Thanks for the info.
Helena10921. 06. 2020
Hello everyone, tomorrow I'd go to Krn Lake and wonder how passable the path is, since it rained 3 days ago?
edoo21. 06. 2020
Hello
Lately it rains almost every day, but also sunny in between. The path is still passable without issue. Gaiters, and rain poncho just in case, although the forecast for the next two days is nice.

Thank you very much for the reply nasmeh

Hi. Does anyone know what the conditions are like at Krn Lake? Is it possible to walk the easy paths from the Dom v Lepeni to Krn Lake
without crampons or are they mandatory?
Thanks for the reply and best regards.
Peterkv1. 05. 2021 21:02:57
Was at the lake today. Snow starts right below the top of the ascent, at the upper station of the cargo cableway. From there onwards it's about 1.5 m. The snow crusts slightly, crampons were not needed today.
KSG5. 08. 2021 22:19:04
From Lepena the path initially drags a bit, but it's easy and therefore suitable also for younger hikers. Path conditions (July 2021) and interesting facts along the path at: https://bit.ly/3AfFeC1

With Schatzijem we went on our first joint trip to the mountains. As a regular mountain visitor, I always rely on your path descriptions and recommended equipment, so I must scold you here. Namely, the destination was chosen by my Big Daddy, who convinced me along the way that no equipment is recommended on your site. Mistake! For a safe ascent and descent, you definitely need poles - the scree on the path does not ensure a safe step, some rocks are very slippery, and it's certainly better for your ankles to help yourself with them. Continuing... because I trust my Korenjak, I left the poles at home, but I soon regretted it badly. On the way, a real little battle for dominance broke out between us - I claimed that hribi.net recommends the use of poles for every even the simplest hike... he - oops - back to me that your itinerary is spot on and that you don't mention poles. In short - relying on your sensitivity cost me dearly - the lost bet actually brought me a lot of enjoyment with the views, but still I must kindly remind here that poles are really N-E-E-D-E-D.

Thank you for taking my comment with the appropriate reserve and know that it is also meant as a tip for fresh couples who sometimes like to step off the beaten path into the bushes.
Big Daddy19. 09. 2021 11:26:15
@ urnebes

I'm really glad about your adventure! As you wrote, poles are needed because of the scree. But I'm glad that they didn't write it on hribi.net (THANKS velik nasmeh )
Because when the bet fell, you fell too. It's true that you are a real mountaineer and that hribi.net takes good and safe care of you... but they also take care of us less experienced hikers mežikanje

it was fantastic, I recommend the trip to everyone, just bring poles to make the path more pleasant. Spice up your evenings with some bet, even at the expense of hribi.net... just read it well beforehand jezik
capraibex19. 09. 2021 11:31:20
Regular mountain visitor, another performer seeking attention. Shame that such comments are not deleted. The website hribi.net is more than excellent, offers appropriate and understandable descriptions.
garmont19. 09. 2021 13:38:58
Lucky that the lovebirds took shoes with them, because the path description doesn't say that they are needed. Or maybe they were without….
serajko19. 09. 2021 17:31:35
what about recommendations for clothingzmeden
ločanka19. 09. 2021 18:38:47
That's not good, if they prescribed everything to us. We'd just like to violate that onesmilesmile. I laughed at these comments.
ljubitelj gora19. 09. 2021 22:42:33
But the wooden poles you find a bit off the path aren't good enough.
kajla29. 05. 2022 18:40:17
Hello!
Last week we went for the first time from Lepena towards Krnsko jezero. At an altitude just over 1000 meters we spotted a bunch of poles leaning under an overhanging rock by the path. Does anyone know what that's for? (Probably not supporting the rock). It looks like an older thing, as some poles are already disintegrating.

I would upload photos, but I can't manage it. Can someone help me?
miri29. 05. 2022 19:23:18
You can upload pictures to Forum-razmere.
mpogac12. 06. 2022 20:17:44
Hello.
I read somewhere that the parking lot in front of the hut in Lepena is payable only with the easypark app. Is that true?
Thanks, best regards and have a safe trip.
mirank12. 06. 2022 21:31:21
This one is new and I think (hope) it's not true
darinka412. 06. 2022 21:41:21
I think she confused it with planina Kuhinja, where the parking is payable.
mpogac12. 06. 2022 22:32:22
That's exactly why I'm asking. I'm not sure which starting point it was about... velik nasmeh
Lepena, Zadnjica or Kuhinja... I'm not sure.
Hammond13. 06. 2022 08:54:21
In front of Dom dr. Klementa Juga in Lepena, the parking lot this Friday (still) was not payable. But at the beginning of the road near the troughs: https://obcina.bovec.si/2020/06/10/parkiranje-ponovno-s-placilom-parkirnine/
ppegan13. 06. 2022 09:01:00
No, she confused it with the parking in Zadnjica, where payment is only possible with the Easypark app. There was a debate about this under conditions. But if you just google a bit, you find out everything, including that a parking meter has been installed (maybe already), which will allow payment with coins jezik

Has anyone perhaps found hiking shoes brand Scarpa gray-blue-black at the parking lot in front of the hut?

Does anyone perhaps know what the conditions are now (22.12.2024) on the Lepena - Krnsko jezero path (Snow, Avalanche)?
Thanks lp R
ksena23. 12. 2023 19:51:21
Conditions 18.12.2023 - Path dry to upper station of cargo cable car. From there to lake trodden. No avalanche danger.
natasacraine8. 07. 2024 08:43:28
So I understand correctly, from everything read, that there is no parking fee at the hut? Or is there?
DVas8. 07. 2024 09:14:25
Last year there wasn't, this year I don't know the situation.
valerija1128. 07. 2024 10:16:30
There is no parking fee at Dom Klementa Juga in Lepena.
Verified on 24.6. this year.
Best regards

mirank8. 07. 2024 12:36:59
Just FYI, the hut at the lakes is closed.
Shkaro8. 07. 2024 19:44:11
We were there on Saturday (06.07.2024) and there was no parking fee...There are enough parking spaces, but they fill up quickly, so you can park along the road too and everything was fine.
mpp8. 07. 2024 21:24:56
as far as is being said, it's not just the huts that have been closed velik nasmeh
