Access to starting point:
From the local road Bled - Bohinj, at the exit from Bohinjska Bistrica, at the bridge, we turn left and then drive along the stream for another kilometre to the end of the asphalt and to the signpost for the source of the Bistrica.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue in the direction of the sign (source of Bistrica). The path moderately ascends on a forest path and after 25 minutes of walking we come to a wider macadam road, where the path splits; we continue right, in the direction of the poorly visible sign for the source. Further on, we follow the blazes, where we come to the first waterfall, where the stream running along the road makes the path a little harder. Next, we come to the wooden bridge, which we do not cross but continue straight ahead, where signs direct us over a footbridge. Another five minutes of walking (dangerous for slipping in places) bring us to the source of Bistrica.

When leaving Boh. Bistrica over the bridge and left, the path is no longer gravel but nicely asphalted. After 1 km gravel starts, but you continue left over the small bridge (no sign there), still on asphalt. Then you reach the parking lot.
The path is quite nice, easy.
Last weekend (22.08.2010) it was very wet and muddy from log dragging.
Markings could use some refreshing too.

Today I was there with family, two small children, we didn't go beyond the first waterfall because the water was too deep over the path. The path takes about 1 h, it is otherwise easy, on some parts wet and slippery (snow melting period), trees on the path which are not too big obstacles. The elevation gain is probably really about 90 m, but the elevation change along the path is greater as it rises and falls several times. Markings could be better, but if you remember the description at least approximately, you can't miss it. The nature here is wonderful, recommended.

The path is really easy, even for families with small children. Parking in Bohinjska Bistrica (2 EUR full day), safe and accessible.

On Sunday 21.7.2024 we went to the source of the Bistrica. Bistrica is a stream that flows into the Sava in Danica, Bohinjska Bistrica is a place in Bohinj. The source of Bistrica can also be reached from Bohinjska Bistrica. Surely it is correct: source of Bistrica, without Bohinjska.
