We're still waiting for a nice weekend, but who knows how much snow has fallen?

@ Grenaleva, call the hut at Zelenica.

I doubt they see much, because the hut is closed weekdays...(probably because richer?)

Otherwise both peaks are nicely walkable even in snow, though I strongly doubt much fell up there...mežikanje

No answer at the hut, on the webcam around two it was snowy around the hut, now there's a bit less. Is Zelenjak not problematic with little snow?

In case of snow all peaks (Vrtača, Zelenjak, Palec) are problematic without winter gear.

So you had winter gear on Monday?

Can you tell me what you need winter gear for in 2-3 cm southern snow?

I can report on today's ascent. Up to the gully ok, about 10 cm of snow, on Zelenjak very dangerous, on Palec doable with some caution. It's already quite well trodden, just below the summit it goes, across the rock nice and slowly. At the top fog and wind.
And also: the junction is no longer marked with a cairn, not marked at all

Tinky documented that the cairn was there. Maybe they're already stealing cairns (pardon, alienating them).

Tinky, I can't believe someone is so malicious. Such a cairn can be life-important for terrain newbie in fog. So frustrated folks and psychopaths are also venturing into the mountains, delighting in the thought that someone struggles to find the right path. Sad!

Different views/opinions on erecting/dismantling cairns are as old as tourists going to the hills. Some build them, some tear down, some just watch them. What's right or not is personal belief, no point rediscovering America. lp

If cairn is life-important in fog, we shouldn't be on such "paths" in fog!
I'm among those who just watch them, like Daam. Sometimes glad for one, sometimes too many, like in Martuljek somewhere. Not surprised if someone removes one. E.g. on Oltar-Rokav ridge loads of them one after another. Actually more interesting to search for path continuation than served on platter.

There are paths and "paths". Paths are for all, properly marked-signposted, "paths" for those who can find and follow them.
To each their abilities.

Janez Seliškar, There are paths and "paths". Very short and precise explanation of mountain paths. I can also tell the other commentators: everyone is right in their own way.

I understand the one who doesn't set up a cairn, but I don't understand the one who tears it down. This smells like anger to me!
