Vrh Korena 1999m

Before sunrise I set off from the barrier at Planina Jezerca past Kriška planina towards Vrh Korena. To the summit via Planina Koren, back over Ježev, Veliki Zvoh and Krvavec to the start. No summit log at Korena. The weather was wonderful. For three and a half hours I didn't meet a soul, only peace and wonderful vistas.

Tinky, were you on some other Vrh Korena than the Vrh Korena 1999? You know, sometimes you gotta use the search and you'll see that lots of female and male mountaineers wrote about it before you! It's right that the admins also get some vacation, not always moving topics to the right spot because someone didn't bother to look! No hard feelings!

We two also postponed the trip to these parts for a long time, where we haven't been yet. It's really nice and we'll return, as there are several nice paths in the area. Easy path without special features to Korena peak from Kriška planina past planina Koren... The views will be even nicer next time velik nasmeh

Planina Jezerca past Kriška planina to Planina Koren and up to Korena peak. Over Ježe to Zvoh and Krvavec and back to start. Weather cold and pretty windy. Ice axe really came in handy over Ježe because ropes were under snow in spots.

Today I started at Kriška planina and via pl. Koren continued to Vrh Korena. Warm spring sun made the snow quite crusty. I had to work hard to kick steps up to Korena Peak. On the summit no wind, warm sun nicely warming, great views all around. It was nice nasmeh

The path to Koren plateau is icy in some sections, there is not much snow on it.

The gates are open, Vrh Korena awaits me.

There is more snow than meets the eye, mostly sinking to the knees or deeper.

Today's day I used for peak bagging in Zakrvavču (pardon my French velik nasmeh

). "Bagged" Vrh Korena, Kompotela and Košutna, and more if I hadn't started quite late (at 12). Anyway, I had nice sunshine, clear and warm weather, godlike views, and didn't meet any living soul (except some squirrels, forest mice and game velik nasmeh

)

Start from Markova ravnina to Planina Koren (watch ice under leaves), where snow starts. Snow fully crusted, walking direct thru scree sometimes sinks to knees. Oh, road to Markova ravnina is crappy, lots of rocks/holes left by this winter... mrk pogled

Today the morning was really wonderful. We started from Kriška planina. To Planina Koren no major peculiarities, just some icy patches. From Planina Koren to Korena Peak itself still quite some snow. Views wonderful, sun just right warm, almost no wind, no people either. Over Ježa to Zvoh need caution in some spots, I even put on quick crampons for better feel. On Krvavec still last ski fans, on Kriška planina already real spring.

Have you been hiking to Vrh Korena these days? How much snow is there? I'm interested - starting point from Kamnik (Markova ravnina).

Today, despite bad prospects, a short Krvavec tour. Start as always from Planina Jezerca then via Kriška planina to Krvavec summit and Veliki Zvoh. Then decide to cross Ježa ridge. Only problem today nasty descent on soggy terrain to Ježe cables. More in fog than not, go to Vrh Korena. No logbook in box. Descend to saddle then to Planina Dolge Njive. There always quench thirst at spring. Today no special thirst. Below Veliki Zvoh decide to descend via Njivice to Tiha Dolina where all ready for hikers. Today sadly none. Then down pastures to Rozka and road back to parking.

Bitter memories on the Jež ridge. When I wasn't snapping flowers, I never noticed it.

I'm already on the path to Tiha dolina - what breed this cow is I don't know, although I know quite a few.

Tiha dolina offers a lot. In winter I haven't been here for a couple of seasons.

The whole Krvavec is well marked - we won't get lost.

Krvavec is close so despite forecast thunderstorms no need super early from home. Park at Jezerca (those who wanna go to end lift barrier with 5€) then via Kriška planina descent to Planina Koren. Goats there very curious cows I don't like walking close to. Lots of them though. Hut at Planina closed don't even know if anyone ever there. Up valley then to Vrh Korena which someone stole a meter for 2000m elite status. But great views on all KSA heroes. Along varied Ježa ridge to lake at Zvoh which in today's heat with nice blue was shamelessly inviting. At Dom na Krvavcu helicopter parked on road engine running later read someone needed help. Still sour milk and schnaps at Kriška planina and long before rain already dry at home. nasmeh

nice trip on beautiful Krvavec slopes.

This is not for digging, but handy for cows and other animals. Kržišče in the back.

Today a nice circular tour. Jezerce-Krvavec-Zvoh-Vrh Korena-Kompotela-planina Koren-Kriška planina-Jezerce. Today a nice sunny day (previous Sunday thunderstorm with hail). Nice views. Path without special features (only over Ježa caution needed). Nice greetings.

The tour in the mountains is nice if instead of rain we walk among snowflakes and even winter-idyllic on top.
I head to Pl. Jezerca, for us Ljubljana folks the highest and at the same time closest pasture with Krvavec mountains. There already midway at just 3.5°C I spot snowflakes among the rain. I aim via Pl. Koren to Vrh Korena and along Ježa ridge to Zvoh and Krvavec back to start. Real snowfall started above 1600m in KSA. Meanwhile especially on upper ridges a cold easterly wind blew hard and drifted snow. Poor sheep below Vrh Korena were audible from afar in the snow blizzard. After descending from Vrh Korena they turned ahead of me onto the ridge and even climbed over Ježa gully, then headed down the same gully towards Pl. Koren. I couldn't believe it after all that previous bleating. Quickly I reach windy Zvoh and continue to the start. It surprises me how our construction-environmental legislation allows on Pl. Jezerca a new tall brick house unsuitable for this mountain environment instead of original wooden like the neighbor did nicely on the other side. Abroad we won't easily see such deviations in type and material of houses. mrk pogled

.Snow is also higher on Kalški ridge very little and drifted. Rocks higher are icy and quite dangerous for slipping, so caution while there's still snow in the mountains! LP nasmeh

A bit suddenly this current winter came to the mountains. By feel though I think autumn will be nice and quite warm for a long time. There will be everything, mushrooms, chestnuts, yellow larches, and also fallen leaves to rake.

When you get up early, look out the window and you'd rather extend sleep for which I'm mostly sorry later. Today though we head towards Krvavec. At Planina Jezerce nothing indicated nice rambling on nearby peaks yet. But fogs cleared, so we descended towards Dolga njiva and on to Vrh Korena. Back over Ježe to Zvoh and back to start. Views wonderful, little wind, path dry, in one word super.
