You don't need snowshoes, Mare. But if you were to go up with them, you need pretty good fitness for the approach from Stahovica, the route is respectably long. Today there were quite a few of us up there; the nighttime snowfall will cover today's tracks, tomorrow we'll make a new trail.
P.S.: at the former Mickina hut continue straight uphill, the left path is actually very dangerous due to the large amount of snow.

In the conditions expected tomorrow, even 630 meters of ascent is not negligible, and there won't be any special pleasure on the foggy Gradišče.

Today a top-notch winter fairy tale on Velika.
The road from the guesthouse has been plowed since noon, but very icy - chains.
Up to Jarški dom it's trampled, further towards Marija Snežna the walking is quite hard. There were quite a few ski tourers and also some snowshoers. The weather was great.

Yesterday I went on the path Stahovica Velika planina. The path is really well trodden and no sinking. For the path over Pasje peči I first took the lower path, but it seemed a bit dangerous; after 50m I turned back and continued on the upper one, which is trodden and no sinking. Also the path to Jarški and Domžalski dom is well trodden and no sinking. Then I went further to Gradišče summit; there you need to sink a bit to the ridge, but no big deal.

Today on the planina a fairy tale. From Marija Snežna onwards towards the top a quite unpleasant wind was blowing, otherwise yuhu!
If someone maybe from Marijanina fields towards Jarški dom found a white glove with pink, blue and brown stripes, please let me know on ZS.

It really was, yesterday namely, on VP a real fairy tale and a real winter one for this time! Temperature in the morning well below zero, even during the day "cold". Sun somewhere in shelter nicely warms... Also info if anyone interested. Path from Stahovica well trodden, across Pasje quite good, some caution walking always needed! Snow starts only a bit above Primož. Best to all!

Started into the winter fairy tale from Kranjski Rak. Road, if you still have winter tires, drivable to barrier, onwards well trodden all the way to Zeleni rob.

On Velika Planina again a fairy tale! It's always wonderful anyway. Yesterday, Tuesday, especially. Monday's, for this time abundant snowfall, covered it well with a thick snow blanket. In the morning I decided I had to see and experience it. Since it rained all Monday in the valley, snow started about halfway on the path between Primož and Mickina bajta. At M.b. already about 40-50cm. Of course blanket thickness varied, as during snowfall wind worked on its own. After short hesitation I decided to take the lower path, across Pasje peči. No regrets, but have to admit I got quite tired. Had plenty of work shaking snow-covered bushes hanging on the "path". Also finding the right track was sometimes so-so. Some wind, it seems during snowfall itself loose snow poured from upper slopes onto terrain where path should be, made terrain quite "leveled". Of course under considerable slope. Missed ice axe a bit. Well, gritted my way to saddle at Kisovska planina and continued on the left, steep path towards mali vrata. Thereabouts "finally" a younger (!) hiker caught up and then (of course) overtook me and enjoyed trampling new snow! Whole way foggy, but that fog acts special, somehow soothing. Up on plateau lingered a while, then spring sun chased it away, which also warms nicely. Mare welcomed me nicely and sympathetically when he spotted me as first visitor that day. And we both were happy. For return chose path over hill, not to "tempt". Snow started softening. On return already met some enthusiasts, among others those regular VP visitors I always greet nicely and wish to meet many more times... Nice greeting also to all other VP visitors and safe steps, I'd say! Hribov.ec
