28.5.2008 I went past Okrešlje and on through Turkish gully to Skuta and then to Turkish mountain. From Okrešlje onwards snow starts, or rather the foot of the gully. Enough snow for ski descent, but don't recommend right through Turkish gully, lots of rocks on snow falling from walls! For hike phenomenal with crampons and ice axe! Lp

Were you at Skuta summit - conditions, what's the path like from Turkish mountain to Kamnik saddle?

Yesterday through Turkish gully to Turkish mountain, on to Kamnik saddle, then to Korošica, Škarje, Klemenča cave, start below waterfall.
Turkish gully passable with crampons. Used crampons twice more on two steep scree slopes with still quite some snow. Otherwise path fairly normal, some spots need ingenuity. Watch transitions from rock to snow, deep holes between rock and snow. From K. saddle wanted direct to Škarje but due to snow on ridges missed path and got to Korošica. Hut at K. saddle closed, at Korošica renovating kitchen-(only drinks), Klemenča cave open.

I'm interested if anyone knows how much snow is left on the path through the Turkish gully. For the weekend I'd go to the Turkish mountain, wondering if I need to take winter gear with me?...

best regards

Today it was like this through gully. True best with crampons and ice axe, I was without, so went via fixed ropes, where shortly after entry 2-3m of cable torn off so need to climb a bit!!, otherwise path from secured part to gully top dry, see pics.

Yesterday with a friend ascended through Turkish gully. Lots of climbers in cirque. Had crampons and ice axe but due to falling rocks preferred via ferrata. Continued to Kam. saddle. A bit above Kotliči still short but very dangerous snowfield with precipice end, so CAREFUL!!!

Today tackled the gully with Goran, excellent team. To Okrešelj of course dry path, snow starts around the memorial to those who died in the helicopter crash years ago. At the gully entrance crampons and ice axe essential, as snow is quite hard, towards the top snow hardness only increases, so for preventive reasons we started descending a few minutes before the top. Downwards adrenaline rush, every step needs to be well secured (of course "butt" descent), practically all the way to the start of the gully entrance. Real relief when we reached the gully start. Recommend lots of caution. Today it was like that.

Please, forum members who were recently in the gully: is there snow in the gully and is the snow consolidated so it can be climbed using ropes?

You can ascend on the protections, although snow reaches protections in places! You can enter the route avoiding snow. Still some meters of snow in the gully which will last quite long.
So, for protected path no winter gear needed!!
Careful and safe step!!

Today I climbed up Turkish gully. Snow already much melted also protections ok. Only at first crossing rope a bit tight so you really hang when holding it. But I think most caution needed just below top of Turkish gully when path over scree. This winter literally erased path on scree so very high slip risk.

ps let those Czechs go f*** themselves in shorts, sneakers, trekking poles as hands gotta be free, marching Turkish gully carefree. One almost swept down, second calming his wife on piton descent, third almost killed me triggering huge rock in front of nose, barely dodged. I pitied mountain rescuers below getting such nice package. Couldn't hold back and yelled at them properly. Nice regards! marko

Many don't realize this path is very demanding and then women scream (on loose ropes), stones fly. Ropes are fixed like this: if group someone probably swings when other tensions and loads the rope. Scree is demanding and needs great caution to avoid slip!!
In short adrenaline and also dangerous.
Not for everyone, meet all...

Is the path in Turkish gully somewhat renovated yet or ropes still loose?

Today (29.09.2009) diligent path markers renewed protections in Turkish gully. All steel cables well tensioned (no more unpleasant "swaying"), some worn also replaced. Hope protections survive winter undamaged.

A BIT LATE BUT HONESTLY. THAT DAY WE MARKACISTS REALLY REPLACED SOME TORN CABLES AND REATTACHED ALL OTHERS. I WONDER IF PD CELJE MISSES MARKACISTS SO WE KAMNIŠKANS CAME TO FIX THIS PATH OR IF IT'S JUST TALK. THEY GO ALONE WRAP THE CABLE WITH SOME TAPE AND THINK EVERYTHING IS OK, BUT IT'S NOT. NO OFFENSE IF I'M STEPPING ON SOMEONE'S TOES.
