Tracing the Slovenian Writers' Trail

Secondary Economic, Service and Construction School, ŠC Kranj, we have voluntarily taken on tracing the Slovenian Writers' Trail. In the first phase, we will draw about 100 birth houses of Slovenian writers on the map using Lidar technology or laser ground scans. Probably we won't draw birth houses of writers who lived or live in the border areas (Austria, Italy). Between individual birth houses, we will draw a path or GPS track using laser ground scans.

We are turning to all interested runners, hikers..., who live in the areas of writers' birth houses, to test our planned GPS track in nature, how it functions (Is it passable or impassable? Could a better route be drawn that you know as locals? ...) In the form of video-guides, we will provide you instructions on how to use the GPS program on a smartphone "ViewRanger", how to draw into Google Map etc.

Another option is to record the path with a smartwatch and share it on Strava (Strava: Janez Černilec).

Our website:
Tracing the Slovenian Writers' Trail

In this way, all interested can voluntarily contribute to cultural tourism in Slovenia. Cordially invited!

Hi, first of all, praise for having taken on the project.

If I understand correctly, you have already conceived the route and are looking for volunteers to check it? I ask because on the links there are only points, no routes.

Otherwise, I can draw a GPX track for some section on my end too. I don't have a smartwatch and don't use Strava, but GPX format is basically universal and you can import it anywhere.

I made the Slovenian Writers' Trail at the desk. I used long-distance hiking trails like E6, E7, Couriers' and Signallers' Trail, St. James' Way in Slovenia, Alpe Adria Trail, Slovenian Mountain Trail... A large part of the trail is drawn on new routes based on the residences of Slovenian poets. Use at your own risk. The trail is not tested on the ground except for the aforementioned trails. Trail length 1,622.56 km. Ascent and descent 53,511 m.

@Loerst it took me a few days to draw the trail. I drew it rather quickly so most points are not exactly on the path. I hope this won't bother orientation. I will be grateful to everyone who tests some part and records GPS track. You can send the track to my gmail: cernilec@gmail.com I used already hiked and recorded GPS tracks from my website: http://lebinca.com/pohodi

What does Lidar have to do with this? LIDAR is a geodetic method for measuring distance to a target using laser beams. Lidar is widely used for creating high-quality maps in geodesy, geomatics, archaeology, geography, geology, geomorphology, seismology, forestry and elsewhere. More... Practically, this means that sometimes I draw track points along the route on a larger or smaller scale, meaning the track deviates from the path on the map. When I want to walk the route, I look at Lidar, check if there is a path there at all and draw the GPX track very precisely so as not to have problems with the path on the ground. Now I am drawing a track that matches the path on the ground. More...
