This morning I dashed up to Toško Čelo with the highlander for half an hour. At 500m I part from the valley fog cover and catch some clearness mixed with remnants of high clouds. At the top you can still see nice late autumn shades of tree colors. The mountains were more wrapped in clouds today than central Slovenia, only early morning was clear according to a local. The last snow line reached 1300m and is nicely visible from the Dobrča picture. Weather will stay warm, but mornings will freeze where there's snow cover. Best-Rok

Viharnik, I read you master "Tošaka". Do you maybe know who fenced its summit? Supposed to be private property??? Anyway, this hill is good for after work, when you don't feel like a more serious hike. Yesterday I needed about 2 hours door to door. Even though it was "empty moon" it was light enough for strolling :-).

The summit of Toško Čelo has been fenced for quite some years. They say the top ridge by the highest hut belongs to it. Now the owners are very old and probably the son fenced it. Before we always walked practically across their plot. Today I also went up there, the forest path is trodden and not slippery. Today after viewing the opposite ridge I noticed they made a ski slope runout with diggers in summer, also a small jump for kids is done. If enough snow, we can sledge and ski right there. Height difference around 70m (from 575 to 500m), otherwise Sv. Jakob is a fine choice for ski touring if enough snow. From Legastja up and down 2x and you make 700 vm. Best

Today's MTB tour to nearby Toško Čelo is good work to get rid of excess food ballast from past days (Turkish kebab on Čopova e.g.). I ride along the road over the pass and from there 3km to the top. On the way I meet only one like-minded and some regular veteran mountain runners. Lucky that rain caught me just before the top, at the top I shelter under roof where I wait. After the shower back home. These days for MTB I'd say usually almost warmer than late spring, so let's use the warm days. HAPPY 2010, on cold Sunday just dress warmly!.

Yesterday I went to the clearing above Gunclje to air out the dusty board. Super!!!

Can you tell a bit more precisely where you started and where you boarded? I'd try it too.

Started in front of our house door :-) and walked to the hill top, he he. So along the Šentvid - Toško Čelo path to the cross (which some idiot cut down) and right to the clearing or ski slope in Gunclje. For all enthusiasts - the lift at the clearing is running!!! Back up on foot along the clearing and approx. in approach direction to the asphalt in Šentvid. All paths in Šentviški hrib are trodden, but powder beside them.

Early in the morning on Toško Čelo I welcome the awakening beautiful day. Up there the sky opens at 500m, clarity towards Snežnik, high cloudiness towards Gorenjska. Birds already merrily chirp in the clearings and fly around trees, the woodpecker announced itself knocking in the forest. Early spring and warmth already felt from the sea. Polhograjci from the south side almost completely snow-free, so no more sledding here. From the low hill I took inner peace, wonderful awakening blue and lively sounds of forest animals. Didn't take pictures, Lp-Rok

I couldn't help myself, before lunch I set off to the nearby little hill to at least feel the conditions up high a bit. Down in the Ljubljana basin it had warmed up somewhat during the day, but not at the top of Toško Čelo. A cold east breeze was blowing, cooling the face even more. Only a few cm of snow up top, higher on Tošč and P. Grmada still full whiteness. Plenty of hikers and runners, and first MTB fans attacked the peak, red-faced from cold one more than the other. Tomorrow off on a ski tour, probably to Fužinske planine. Lp-Rok

In the afternoon I hop to nearby Toško Čelo for a panorama of conditions in KSA after the last snowfall. I do the path partly on road, partly on shortcut, in between passed by some MTB cyclists. Ascent still quite autumn-warm for this time. Quickly past L.K. on the scenic ridge of the highest peak 590m. At first no view due to clouds, so I used waiting time for walking around the top. Finally clouds break a bit in setting sun and I caught some pics of KSA. Now it's completely cleared in Ljubljana and night will be cold. Lp-Rok

At approx. what height did it snow (1700) lower?

It sprinkled up to 1650m, above 1800m at Rzenik height it snowed steadily.

Toško Čelo is some kind of reserve trip for bad weather or when we don't have much time.
