Today I was already at Rifugio Pekol at half past five in the morning. My goal today was Špik nad Nosom. Above the hut I go on the path as for Špik-Hude Police. Somewhere more than halfway the path to Špik nad Nosom branches off. The ascent is not too demanding-just a few short secured sections. Below the summit a large herd of ibex awaits me. We went up relatively quickly from some pass. At the top a completely new bivouac awaits us-beautiful. The interior is wonderful. For a surcharge you can even get something to eat-prices and a money box are there. Then I decide to descend along the ridge. This is an exceptionally beautiful path. It's full of precipitous places with quite narrow ledges at times, countless sections with cables, snow tongues. I walked on this path for some time-I don't know exactly what it's called. Since I had to return to Rifugio Pekol I turned at some markers onto the lower old military path-mulattiera, which is not marked at all. Next to the mulattiera there are lots of ruins of military objects. It's nice to follow along the entire slope and then through the forest. Here we reach the road to Rifugio Pekol. Really unique tour.
Start at Planina Pekol.1
Mountain hut.2
Here you need to turn right onto the path to Špik Hude police. Špik nad Nosom is also marked.3
On the far right is my goal, in the middle is Špik Hude police.4
My goal.5
Here you turn right.6
On the stone is written - Špik nad Nosom.7
Nice.8
This is the path to Špik nad Nosom - a short secured path to the top.9
It is well marked throughout.10
Below the summit I encounter a herd of male ibex.11
I passed it like this.12
Pre-summit.13
Summit - a decent bivouac on top.14
Noter, but top-notch equipment.15
The views from the top are magnificent.16
Descending the ridge path - look back at the bivouac.17
I walk along these ledges.18
I walked a long time over countless ledges, descended cables, bypassed snow tongues. At this inscription I turned onto the old military mulatjera - it was not marked.19
Along the mulatjera there are plenty of ruins of military structures from WWI.20
I reach the path to planina Pekol.21
The livestock is already in the pens near the barns. It looks like the shepherds have finished their work for today, because on the pasture there is livestock with shepherds. At night it is in the barns.22
On the way back I also take a look at the lake.23

As I see, Mr. Velkavrh, you weren't at Strma Peč, but at Špik nad Nosom, where in 2012 a bivouac dedicated to Luka Vuerich from Trbiž was built, otherwise deceased, but once an excellent alpinist. Nice tour. The path is called Ceria - Merlone. Strma Peč is of course somewhere else, but still close - 5 km straight line southwest.

Yes Velkavrh, I don't know how you translate it, but Strma Peč would be (or is) Monte Cimone. That Leva on the third picture is not left, but the ferrata "Augusto ed Elenita Leva", which leads from below Špik Hude Police to Montaž. As klm says, you were quite far from Strma Peč, which you have in the background on the 5th picture. No hard feelings smile

Only today did I finally figure out where I actually walked. I covered a good part of the Ceria-Merlone path (Sentiero Attrezzato Ceria-Merlone). That's its official Italian name. It starts where I started. Below the summit of Špik Hude Police turn right onto the path that leads under Špik nad Tratico and high above Alpe Pekol to Škrbina nad Tratico (Forca de lis Sieres) and then over the double summit of Špik nad Nosom (Fornon del Buinz). On the summit stands the new bivouac that I presented. Further we go on the old military path under Špik nad Špranjo (Modeon del Buinz) and it leads along the ledge to the eastern side of this mountain. Here the military path ends and we descend over rocks and scree to Škrbina la Val (Forca de la Val-2352m). It's well secured. Behind the notch the path heads back to the old military path and across exposed ledges we cross under the summit of Nižnji vrhovi (Cime delle Puartate-2436m). Then we go in a semicircular arc under the Špice v Planji (Punta Plagnis). From here I'm not sure if I reached Škrbina Krni dol (Forcella del Cregnedul). On that rock it said CASERA CREGNEDUL NON SEGNATO! I think that means - beware ladder. I know there should be a 10-meter ladder here that probably leads down a steep slab. Here I turned onto the old mulattiera that leads along the slope in zigzags to the pasture and then through the forest to the road to Alpe Pekol. This slope is called Krni dol. For this exact description I used the wonderful book by Ingrid Pilz. For illustration of the path that really excited me and that I'll repeat in reverse next year, I'm adding a couple of pictures.
Towards Škrbina nad Tratico.1
Near Škrbina nad Tratico I was observed.2
Along the ledges.3
Kings of these heights.4
At number forty I stopped counting - really.5
I don't know what this inscription before the summit on the rock means.6
As I already mentioned, there is no shortage of defensive walls and caverns.7
In the bivouac such comfort - bravo Italy!8
From the top immediate abseil down.9
That's how it goes.10
We had to get over such icy tongues somehow.11
Nothing different here either.12
Nice.13
I would call it a Giant.14
Past all these peaks.15
Yes, that's how it looks.16
Looks dangerous, but it's not at all.17
I went over these, I counted them. Actually I don't know their names.18
Tough!19
Here I have to go down to the valley and back to the mountain pasture.20
Here I turn onto an unmarked mule track - This is Krni dol.21
How long did they take to build this.22
All along the road to Planina Pekol there were military buildings.23
On the way back I viewed Rabeljsko jezero.24
We really shouldn't be without flowers - Triglav isn't here, but there is the triglavska roža.25
There is also the Triglavski svišč.26
Triglavska neboglasnica.27
Beautiful mountain nebina.28
I also found edelweiss.29
And also quite ordinary arnica, which soon no one would know grows here.30

That inscription means: Alpe Krni dol - unmarked. The Ceria Merlone path continues from there to Škrbina prednje špranje, where it connects with the Anita Goitan path, which is another nice continuation of the aforementioned path. Yes, these Western Julian Alps are beautiful and lately more and more visited where we Slovenians lead and that's right!

We hiked this path two years ago, but in the opposite direction to you. At the top of Krni dol you should have descended on the other side of the ridge and you would have reached the ladder you mention, and descended via it to Škrbina Prednje špranje. You probably just descended at Krni dol and thus missed part of this beautiful path, which continues to Škrbina Prednje špranje, which is the official start of this path if you tackle it from that side. For me this path was among the most beautiful I've hiked so far.
You can find a description of this path also in Mašera's book,
55 secured climbing paths.

As I mentioned, next year I'll do the whole thing in reverse direction - complete. In ten days I'm going back to this area. This time properly to Strma Peč. I descended because I wasn't sure how to get back to Alpe Pekol. Now I know.

@Keko yes it's description no. 46, but only 50 are described, otherwise the description of Ceria - Merlone is also in the Western Julian Alps guide under no. 37. wink

In the newer edition Mašer added another 5 descriptions, so now there are 55 altogether and this one is no. 51. I have the latest edition of this book.

I already brought the older book-50 secured climbing paths from the library. I read a lot of mountaineering literature in winter. The book enthused me. In PV I always first read his contributions if there are any.

@velkavrh: congratulations for the tour. In the western Julians there are "kaverne" (artificially hollowed caves in the rock) and not "taverne" (inns).nasmeh

I like somewhat more demanding and longer tours. Free climbing of I. and II. degree also doesn't bother me - plus exploring mountain flora - complete pleasure. True, I walk an hour longer because of that, but no problem. At home I then have really a lot of work to put the contributions together - select photos and text for flowers as well as for tours.

On Thursday we planned to go to the Steep Cliff, but at the cheese hut a sign stopped us, stating that both paths to the mentioned summit are closed. The cause was a fire that engulfed a good part of this mountain's slope and spread towards Pecol pasture. On Wednesday it was extinguished also with the help of rain, but helicopters were still spraying water on the slope on Thursday. We chose a reserve goal - Špik Hude police.

On Friday I did the premiere ascent to Steep Cliff from Pecol pasture. Extremely nice tour, extremely few hikers. The path goes partly over burned slopes that avalanches additionally damaged in winter, but it does not hinder the ascent. Gorgeous tour worth a reprise.
There is still a lot of snow on Kanin.1

Yesterday in nice weather at pl.Pecol lively, though most hikers choose other directions. Slovenians were the majority and most went to Montaž. We went to Steep Cliff and the choice was excellent... Up past Vandul saddle, return via the slope of Viene. The path starts as a flat walk and later you ascend in switchbacks with nice views far around. The path is very nicely routed, part of it secured with a cable and there is a nice bivouac nearby. Lots of flowers and animals, but no hikers on Steep Cliff. Views far around to the sea and the peaks were not lonely. The summit has a Mary figurine and no summit book or stamp. Warmly recommend nasmeh

On Sunday it was the right day for a visit to Steep Cliff. We started walking on the Via Alta path and left it at the branch for path no. 640. We returned on path 641 and stepped again onto the high-alpine promenade, which on Sunday was a real mountain paradise paved with soft larch needles glowing in the afternoon sun.
Beautiful loop tour, caution is needed on the descent over the Viene area because the grasses are now dry and dangerous for slipping. The cable and the climb over rock jumps to the summit of Steep Cliff are no problem.
Day without a cloud, views to the sea and over snow-covered Austrian hills, constant presence of ibexes, which were mainly not disturbed. The mountain was not lonely today, quite the opposite, even in the afternoon hikers were still starting the ascent. On such a day, it really was never too late!
