This time I went from Tolsta Košuta along the ridge to Košutnikov turn-Užnik. Below it, at the saddle, I descended pathless back to the start. The ridge is very demanding, airy, crumbly, exposed, climbing II degree, possibly more.

Bravo. That's exactly what I preferred to skip today.

If you start crossing the ridge at Ljubelj, then this end is a bit less nice

Well, I aimed for the ridge Tolsta Košuta-Veliki Vrh with descent to Hajnževo sedlo. Without Ljubelj

Hi! Next week nice warm weather expected, time to go to Košuta Interested in technical difficulty from Obliči to Košutnikov turn past Gamsovke or on them? Technically compared to ridge Ponce - Strug - Vevnica (harder, easier) or high Rosijanska path? Been on those From what I read looks harder than both, but in practice different. Much shorter of course. Regards,

http://www2.arnes.si/~mcuder/vrh/kosutnikov_turn.html Long ago I was there, remember only one awkward spot, went down without rope. Ponce-Strug-Vevnica-Mangrt also long ago, no real hard spots remembered, I'd say Košuta less demanding, just some minor climbing, also shorter overall, mainly on Košuta mostly walking with poles... If memory serves, where I had to climb down a bit, there was peg for rope descent, but went without (had piece of rope with me, that I know).

Is it then best to stick more or less to the ridge?

Gamsovke are definitely harder than Rosojanska. You can descend below them though. Otherwise nasty steep grass, some wobbly rock in between, but still easier. Still demanding pathless terrain, no mistake After some descent you reach the marked path to Turn

On Saturday we traversed the ridge from Tolste Košute via Gamsovke to Košutnikov Turn. Due to family circumstances none of us was particularly mentally psyched for climbing, we took quite some time for the traverse, the terrain is mostly very loose and exposed. At the belay for the (optional) rope descent there was a brand new auxiliary cord. Great day, some pics are here.

Judging by the photos there were quite a few detours below the ridge. I stuck more or less strictly to the ridge and had no problems progressing. The rock is good.

Well, probably a matter of interpretation what one still sees as detour. We didn't go much more than ten or twenty meters below the edge, but we were mostly on the south side. We followed trodden tracks everywhere, so not first or only there. True, none of us loves balancing on the edge enough to strictly push the crest line... Let who feels good on it take it, we were happy that way too.

@Trobec Obviously we really met. Now I get why you were so long on top of highest Gamsovka ... Did you hand out ice axes then?

Yeah, there we took time for "chilling" Stayed in or on backpack due to warm sunny weather But in late fall when steep grasses expected wet or icy, always take it. True, still impressed by much steeper Trentarski grasses
