Puštal Loop

ločanka5. 04. 2020 17:05:17
I have climbed the individual peaks in this circuit countless times, but both of us did the full loop yesterday for the first time only. Once I did something like it, but the start was at St. Andrew then, and then this circuit had no name yet. If no name, then not the same nasmeh. With a name it all really starts nasmeh.

All peaks are in the frame of our municipality or on the border. In between we peeked into other municipalities a bit, but that's not forbidden. You can look. Two were sitting on the Tošč summit, saying they came from Podutik. I thought they'd broken the rules how many times, I didn't count.

The world of this circuit is beautiful, nice path and wonderful views in all directions. The path is long, longer than expected, but it didn't drag anywhere. Always something draws one the most, yesterday the beautiful green meadows of St. Ožbolt and its vicinity.

Nice, ločanka, as always. This path is also wittily recorded and excellently documented. I know you'll cheer us with more outings until the measures are lifted. Best

COVID limits still shape our goals, but plenty of nice things can still be found despite that. Such is the Puštalski Circuit. So that the route doesn't repeat too much, this time we upgraded it with a visit to St. Jacob above Topol. For some extra kilometers and elevation we were rewarded with an early weather improvement, which was very welcome nasmeh.

This variant is fully marked too, the part from Ločnica to Tehovec only with yellow Jacob arrows. Paths were muddy despite snow the previous day only traditionally on the ascent to Osolnik and St. Jacob from the shady side, the rest was thoroughly dried by wind and sun. The whole path is too long for a more detailed description, so more in the photo story …

Here we turn off. The Loška mountain path has not yet called us2

Can one now go on the cart track over Anžičev travnik???? Old Anžič no longer comes at you with a pitchfork to kill you???? I can't believe that such a thing is possible....

This time we weren't quite sure about the feasibility of the Puštalski Circuit. Nature recently showed its power right in these parts and we expected quite a few fallen trees, perhaps even some parts of the path washed away. Since clambering over blowdowns is not on our top list of pleasures, we were prepared to look for an alternative detour or even turn back. The decision was made and we went ...

We started at the parking lot near Hudičeva brv, which simply no longer exists. The floodwaters carried it away, flooding the surrounding houses to an unimaginable height. We would have been underwater at the parking lot too, not just the car. Now it's noticeable on the house facades, ruined yards in many places and mud on the meadows. A lot has already been cleaned up, much more still needs to be done.

Right above the last houses we were surprised by a notice of trail closure. It doesn't say which section or why, just the bare notice. Too general to turn back. We knew the path and perhaps we could make a bypass. With that idea we continued on the planned path. Surprisingly, we reached the church of Sv. Ožbolt without any problems, from there it's asphalt all the way to Selo nad Polhovim Gradcem anyway. Nothing fallen, nothing washed away. The trail closure notice is completely irrelevant up to this point from the start.

The continuation provided an explanation. Right before Aličeva farm, the bank above the road was washed away in several places and buried it. However, the landslides have been cleared and the road is passable for all vehicles, walkers can somehow walk along the road without problems velik nasmeh. Only that notice down there will probably persist for a while and unfortunately it's often like that. But believe it if you can ...

The entire continuation was the same as all previous ones. The path was dry even in those places where it's often slippery, few hikers. We quickly got over Tošč and Osovnik, then we started descending towards Škofja Loka. No obstacles or difficult passages anywhere, nor any notices. The descent was already shadier, as the sun in November has a fairly low orbit. We reached the valley at the church of Sv. Križ and soon we were back at the starting point. In summary .... Puštalski Circuit is fully passable without limitations caused by nature (status November 2023).
View from the parking lot to Hudičeva brv, which unfortunately no longer exists1
Visible water marks on the facades. The level was at least 2 m higher than the point where we stand2
New addition in Puštal. Last year there was no trace of any of this3

We will continue along the asphalted road with a beautiful view.14
View back in the direction of Sv. Ožbolt.15
This was a more serious issue. Now the landslide area is remediated and the road is passable.16

bagi, on the third pic you note new addition. There they're building Žolšče settlement, about 60 new houses. So till next time, when all can be totally different againnasmeh

Ločanka thanks for the explanation nasmeh. It seemed to me something like that, because one skeletal house is already built, and some of them are laying foundations.
