Thanks, Igor! Whenever we're around there we always like to drop by Bovec, but if the "detour" includes a nice meeting and chat, it's even better mežikanjenasmeh

I took the gondola up as high as possible. First I go to Bela peč, from there I descend back down and head to Prestreljenik. When I get a bit below Prevala, there's such thick fog you can't see more than a few meters ahead. An Italian was walking in front of me, I hoped he was going where I was, he seemed right. When we reach Sedlo, it's full of people up there, just standing and sitting in that fog, no one going towards the summit, even my companion gave up. I pause for a moment and decide to go a bit higher. When I climb a little more and get right below Prestreljenik, the fog starts breaking up, only then did I see the summit wasn't far. In a moment the top was clear and the path much easier when you can see where you're going. A bit below the summit I meet people coming back. I'm alone at the top, after a while "my" Italian arrives, all smiles and happy, since it's completely clear at the top but still foggy below. He mumbled something, I replied my way, we understood each othernasmeh Later two English guys arrive and we enjoy the top of Prestreljenik together. After a good hour of sunbathing on top, the summit started sinking into fog too, so we slowly retreated. Nice day, all the best.

Had to check up towards Kanin a bit, to see if there'll be any skiing on the mountain this year. I drive to Planina Krnica, then along the well-marked path towards Prevala. All the way to the end of the first valley below Prevala it was dry (around 1750 m), further hard frozen snow, so I put on crampons right away. To Prevala the snow held my weight well, higher towards Prestreljenik notch the ice crust gave a bit, but didn't hinder walking. I stayed within the marked path, but didn't go to the notch as I kept more to the right and turned up towards Prestreljenik. Since conditions were fairly good, snow mostly hard, over some hard crust mixed with verglas I decided to climb to the top. I chose the nicest (most snow-covered) passages and reached the summit without major issues. Views to west, north and east excellent, only south foggy. Descended to Prestreljenik notch and in fog to Prevala, then down Krnica valley to start. Fog cleared later, nice afternoon. Quite pleasantly warm in the sun. Snow line this time in Western Julians much higher than forecast. But obviously very wet snow fell that froze solid, so wherever there's snow winter gear mandatory due to high slip risk. Safe travels.

I think this one doesn't work, unless they repaired the gas supply.1

In South Primorska it seems it snowed much higher than here in Central Slovenia, at our place it was white in the morning, later just a bit in the gullies, snow up to about 1900 m asl I'd say.

25.02.12 I ascended from station "D" of the Kanin cable car to the summit of Prestreljenik via the eastern ridge. Snow conditions were good, only in some places the snow was soft and sinking. Weather was sunny and windless, view fantastic. At the summit I was a bit disappointed because some scoundrel stole the stamp. Descent the same way. Altogether with enjoying the views it took about two hours.

Sunrise below the summit of Prestreljenik...exceptional experience in the shelter of mighty Kanin mountains...

...and since there was more than enough time after the tour, we also stopped at Rabeljsko and Belopeška lakes...paradise for photographers...

I gladly admire morning or evening sun rays,
but with your shots one gets the shakes,
of course in the form of happiness and joy,
seeing how beautiful our morning Earth is in the mountains.

Wonderful, thanks and safe steps further.

Motifs are nice, but completely unnatural colors, overly processed photos. Mountains and everything connected to them aren't like that, fortunately.

Exactly Igor. What a shame... such nice pictures could have been... too much of this processing on PZS pages. Well, same author of course.

In my mountain book and guide collection
I have Kugy's Die Julischen Alpen im Bilde
from 1934, on page 68 is for me the most beautiful
picture of Triglavska Bistrica with Stenar from
Janko Ravnik, black and white of course! Also Jaka
Čop has in my opinion the best creations in black
and white, although flora and
fauna must really be in colors, it comes out better for
studying! Eržen's pictures are really
gorgeous, but it's the same as with
TV HD and LED technology, colors too
artificially emphasized! Sorry, that's my
personal opinion, stay healthy!!nasmehnasmeh
