Planina Pecol and the ridge below Montaž

pohodnica5328. 06. 2011 13:10:41
Saturday 25.6. - planina Pecol and the ridge under Montaž – as Mr. Janez Medvešek wrote ..... for people seeking heaven on this earth; when carnations scent those meadows, you throw yourself into that flowering carpet, close your eyes and immerse yourself in timelessness; above the meadows beautiful peaks: Montaž, Vrh Brda, Špik nad Cijanerico, Špik Hude police, on the other side the mighty Kanin mountain range; and truly for the ignorant it's unimaginably fairy-tale like, not to mention numerous majestic ibexes and whistling marmots along the path a bit higher; we started from Montaž hut, continued to the ridge under Montaž or to some saddle, then circular back to Brazza hut and back to the hut; even our »little grandson« enjoyed the views infinitely of this beautiful mountain paradisenasmehnasmeh; best regards

Pohodnica, it's really magical as you say, judging by the photos alone, let alone in reality. This needs to be seen live at first opportunity. Thanks for the beautiful photos and good luck to the little hill-climber on further, ever higher endeavors.

Pohodnica, you had a super time, we were one day before at Špik - Hude police, at Montasio hut we treated ourselves to their goodies. I'm wondering if from this path you describe one can get to the path leading to the top of Špik-Hude police. Thanks for your answer and I wish you many more beauties in the mountains.nasmeh

Sabina1967 Yes, you can get there a bit above hut Brazza there's a junction... To the junction you can also come from the direction of Montaž or Škrbina vrh Stermali (saddle). Towards hut Brazza on the flat is a nice walk. There are quite a few turnoffs in the last part but this one is the easiest if you don't know it well.

@sabina1967- luckily Kozorog has already answered you exhaustively, I could hardly, since it's unknown to me, but true that the slope is crisscrossed with numerous paths and from here too lead under Montaž and probably further; we too looked towards Špik-Hude police, which tempts us for the next trip, of course without the youngest member, since he's only 2 and a half years old, and I hope it's not too vertigo-inducing for me"zmeden; at the sinfully good cheeses in Montasio hut our "taste buds" danced too - really yummy; same I wish you many nice little tours and pleasures in discovering mountain beauties; best regardsnasmeh

Pohodnica53, if you go to Špik Hude police past hut Brazza and on the usual path, there are no "dizzying" places. The path is wide enough and safe. Just take helmets, because a stone might fly.

On Sunday stones were triggered mainly by hikers, as there was quite a crowd. Well two or three flew, but they warned us in time about the rolling danger.
I recommend visiting during the week.

Kozorog and Macesen1, thank you both very much for your answers.., pohodnica, just go without worry to Špik - Hude police.., the path is super, we even met mountain bikers there.., forget about vertigo, there's no danger for vertigo anywhere. To all together I wish safe steps wherever it takes you.. nasmeh

Pohodnica53 you made a wonderful ad for this area. Quite a few of my acquaintances are enthusiastic about this tour, just no one who would go with me. Best regards.

Pohodnica-53, your described trip and photos are excellent. I'm just curious how much time approximately you spent on the described path. Nice, thanks for the answer.

@triglav, sorry for the late reply, I was away for a longer time as grinhorn excused me; hiking - hard to say how long, for us definitely good 4 hours 30 minutes altogether, but as I wrote, we had a small child besides; normal hiking from the hut to the ridge is about 1 hour 30 minutes one way by my estimate (looks close, but drags on and almost 600m ascent), then something similar to Brazza hut with the fact that after the summit section of the path you return partway on the same path anyway; ibex are in the last part of the path (gotta make an effort for everything beautifulmežikanje), marmots somewhere halfway; Velkavrh quickly finds company, really worth seeing, in between you can stop at Rabeljsko Lake and inflate a boat for a ride on upper Belopeško Lake and admire Mangart - well that's really already advertisingnasmeh; best regards to all and thanks for encouragements regarding ascent to Špik Hude policenasmeh;

Pohodnica53, is this path below the Montaž ridge that you hiked the same as this one to Špik Hude police?
Can you see ibex and marmots on this one too?

Thanks for the answer...

@robi14 - I haven't been to Špik Hude police yet, but this path below Montaž ridge certainly can't be the same - much easier, I think; it's just a very nice path along grassy slopes that ends before you'd have to climb into any rocks; initial part even gentler and really across meadow, then zigzag rocky, scree trail amid green-colorful blooming-grassy carpet; honestly for "Sunday hikers", old and young, since otherwise we wouldn't go with little grandson; probably with such little effort it's hard to get anywhere to beautiful views, and even close encounters with these wonderful mountain creatures; of course plenty of ibex, also marmots, with the latter "sailing off" briskly into their holes as soon as they sense human proximity; best regardsnasmeh

The path to Špik Hude police is one of the easiest in this area and actually there's no essential difference with the path to Vrh strmali, even more, the path to Špik is even much wider than that little trail under Montaž.

Igor, is it possible to admire ibex and marmots on this path to Špik Hude police too?

On the path to Špik Hude police there are tons of female ibex and young ones, majestic adult males not so much. We didn't meet marmots either, but probably there are if you come earlier and not in the biggest crowd nasmeh. Otherwise yeah, it's really a highway, you step on rock first time maybe a meter or two below the summit nasmeh.
