Kopa (Picco di Mezzodi) above Belopeška lakes has two approaches. Usual from lakes and little-known but marked (519) from hidden Remšendol valley. Currently passable without big issues but not for everyone. Markers labeled *Solo per esperti*, or simply... for experienced hikers nasmeh

Path foot-friendly warm-up on Remšendol scree, then steep to rock steps. Lots of veg and moisture in summer heat. Nicer part at rocks. Keep left to Kopa, ridge-walk up down left right velik nasmeh

. Exposed spots, partly eroded but no major probs with *Solo per esperti* in mind.

Return circular via usual descent, at saddle take left junction. Shorter than ascent, crosses slopes to start.

Start coords ... 46°29'17.2"N / 13°36'30.7"E

Friendly start to the head of Remšendol valley.

*Solo per Esperti* is not without meaning. Hikers without appropriate experience have nothing to look for here.

The path turns left into a pronounced gully.

Progress up the gully. Roughly in its middle the path turns left onto the ledge.

Here and there the ridges are sharpened, but nothing particularly difficult

The most delicate traverse, fortunately not too long

Here both paths join. To the top it is about 20 minutes

After 17 years yesterday back on Kopa, again from Jezerska planina as memories had faded and needed refreshing nasmeh

It didn't look like the weather would improve, but it did. Just below the summit the sun was melting the clouds, and on the summit clear views soon followed.
Kopa is set back from the main Mangart ridge but is an open balcony for the surroundings.

Especially Travnik in green yesterday shone, hard to look away, almost overshadowing dominant Mangart.
Nearby Bukovnik rises nicely too. Both now known, recently insignificant and unknown.

Return over blooming Jezerska planina meadows, glances back at the panorama, then feet soaking in upper Mangart lake, busy yesterday.

Zelenci along the way, had to stop, yes all in one day.

Finish with good coffee at Aljažev dom.

above Remšendol - Male Špice, Visoka Špica, Skala, Monte Bucher (no translation)

also Mangart revealed itself, it is of course the main star here

admiration - Mangart, Travnik, Bukovnik, Male Špice

over Monte Schobra and Rabeljski špici view to Viševo and Montaževo group in clouds

and Travnik always attracted the gaze again, you rarely see such green meadows, it captivated me

Here Travnik Mangarta really overshadows it.

In early July we hiked the path from the Belopeška Lakes to Poldnik - Kopa. In the morning fog our goal was hidden, but when we reached the forest line, the fogs cleared and we began enjoying the views of Dobrač, Ponce, Mangart and the Montasio group. A bit below the summit the path on the rocky jump is secured with a rope, making the approach easier. A helmet is highly recommended here. We descended the same path.

unfortunately bars still closed at lakes so no way to quench thirst mrk pogled

gained some kg during virus time, won't make it.

I have a question for you, recently I watched a video and ascent to this peak by some Italian who didn't reach the top because right below it was sign that path is closed. Is it true, is the path still closed?

The path is O.K. and it has always been O.K. He thought to cross path 519 to the valley Val romana /Remšendol and saw that at the upper junction there is a sign path closed (already many years closed with description on web "sentieri CAI FVG" because he didn't check and didn't ask anyone how the path status is, pushed up with very heavy backpack and it looked like climbing up some wall, did you see his footwear??? come on please, that says everything, such people just hurt that they are home on couch because they cause only trouble), let me tell something about this guy: he is from southern Italy and decided to go through whole part of country like pilgrim, has his blog where many people because no clue in mountains follow him by stages and 3/4 comment such nonsense god help zmeden

yeah sure that's how he earns money to do whole tour through country, more people comment more he earns, don't know who sent him right on this path and he had luck that thank god I closed it again with signs just for such idiots like him and I know I completely saved his life because with that weight and "gear" he wouldn't have any chance because very inexperienced as I noticed on other easier stages of his trip. Real circus mrk pogled

On Sunday via circular path Remšendol - Poldnik - Remšendol. The path is nicely marked and suitable for very experienced, as it is very crumbly and without cables to the top. On descent the rope helps.
On top there were not exactly nice views, but who would miss them after two cloudless days jezik

I'll add some more photos myself, since I had better views the day before nasmeh

Up and back I went from upper Mangart Lake. The path is without features, only in shady forest part the rocks were damp even on return.
Worth noting that path 519 over Rateče saddle - which Bos took to the summit - is officially closed, as seen from one of his (and also my) photos.

There are quite a few larches in the middle section of the path

At the top the views are even better - Kanin

Nearby peaks - Visoka špica, Skala, behind peeking peaks of Loške stene - Bedinji vrh, Vrh Krnice - then Rombon, and Jerebica

Rabeljske špice, somewhat less attractive from here...

Above the edge of Rateške Ponce the Martuljška Ponca appears too; and Oltar, Rokavi and Škrlatica

Visited Mala Mojstrovka and Prisank. Also on other 'usual' peaks nothing was better :-) Right is the similarly visited Strug - with two cowbells on top :-)

The cross at the summit offers a good motif

Yesterday up to reinforce the cross because lightning struck eek

and scattered the placed stones around for securing the base mrk pogled

, on return removed the rope in the gully because even if it helps it's not safe (per EN NORM 2018), ordered PD FJK that if they get some money they install a cable.
