Hi, I'm interested where or on which mountain I could find or encounter chamois etc. animals or where I'd have the most luck? thanks in advance for all answers! Urban U.

When we were on 16.7. around 17h returning from Staničeva to Kot, at Debelem kamnu we ran into a group of three adults and five cubs. The biggest didn't move until we were a good 10m away, mom with cubs withdrew a bit earlier to safety.

Whenever I go through Sovatna valley I meet ibex. In Krma there are marmots too. Under Kamniško sedlo usually goats too.

Wasn't the question about chamois, you post and write about ibex No chamois on crowded paths at least now, they are found more in solitary corners, and even then only if one approaches quietly, they are shy and flee fast, harder to photo too, well if good lens possible.

But still let's not forget that with so-called photohunting we also quite disturb such little animals

Igor, the question was also about chamois-like animals, which ibex in my opinion are. And they are easier to photograph, as we all found out together.

For assistance, it might be good to read and view the pictures in this article: http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/68090/. @hribovc, animals are mainly bothered by the presence of people in their habitat, photohunting doesn't particularly disturb them if we don't rush into them and after them, and photohunting is still better than real hunting.

One brave one yesterday on the path from Belska Kočna to Belski turn (Storžek). The main group unfortunately retreated too quickly.

Is the starting point marked with any signs, thanks

Yes, of course it is and the path is fully marked. Here everything is nicely described. But it's true, the branch-off can be easily missed. If going over Pavličevo sedlo, then turn left, from Jezerski vrh right. You need to drive more slowly, then it works, if not you can still turn around.

Many thanks for opinions and comments. Animals are shy that's true but I wouldn't exactly rush into them already just for my own safety... What about Bovški Gamsovec? What's the probability I'd run into chamois or something else during the day? Urban

More of them are found on nearby Pihavec which is less crowded, also on Kriški podi but not during daytime. Most animals graze in morning and evening hours, during day they retreat to solitude, also in windy weather few are seen, then they withdraw to sheltered areas. When I wandered like that late autumn above Mlinarica below Razor I saw quite a few chamois, otherwise in mountains above Bavšica, and below Vrh Krnice above Kluže is one of the largest chamois herds in Bovec area.

Mlinarica below Razor . . . yeah yeah, especially Germlajt and Kanceljni are a chamois paradise

Would it be a big problem if I "slept" one night outdoors? I mean probably not allowed but still

fotoUrban, I'll whisper this to you (don't tell further ): Officially it's of course forbidden and that's right. Unofficially, you were just too tired and the night caught you, so you rather overnighted under the open sky than risked the descent

Turbo, this stays just between us I'll find a tour with at least bivouac nearby or hut, so no problem Thanks for the advice

The upper shots were taken ten minutes before eight a.m. The path to where they were (a bit below Savinja Saddle) is not demanding, my dog handled it easily too. The other is the last cca. 100vm to Storžek. But that, if you're going to observe chamois, you can calmly skip.
