Which one? The viper? And how's she doing now?

Tell the truth, don't panic without need. What really happened?

On the triangular clearing in Mrzli dol (at the bivouac under Savinjsko sedlo) all kinds "sunbathe", so you gotta watch where you step. Yeah, when strolling you're not looking at the ground but at the peaks Rink, M.gora and towards Kamniško sedlo, Planjava and Ojstrica. Quickly one was inside (unaware). By the rosettes on the head, I assume nose-horned viper. About 9 or 10 (one inside). Imagine the surprise when you get to the car in the valley then into the backpack, feel something soft, not a regular sausage. Quickly realized what it was. Thank God, no bite, turned the backpack inside out, witnesses saw it all. All's well that ends well. Yeah, killed the snake though protected, because it was hissing all around and lunging (didn't want to go at all). So, any more questions?

What, didn't you drink anything on the way to the car to notice the snake a bit earlier or do you carry your drink in your hand, Marko?

At 2000 m there are no nose-horned vipers. That means it's an adder.

So, answer just now, since I was in the mountains again, this time on Mrzla gora. Usually thermos in the side pocket of the backpack, so I didn't open it until the car; at Frischauf we drank a beer, at the Savinja spring I refilled the thermos. It was a nose-horned viper, since the adder has no rosette.

Nice to see and to visit it's nothing special. I'm just glad winter hasn't said its last words yet and we can still walk on snow. But a bit we need to wait for it to settle, because I think this snow isn't the safest. Especially I remember when avalanche rushed all the way to the hut breaking everything before it. So safe and happy. Sebastjan

Today I went with my better half towards Okrešelj! Road is plowed only to the junction! But we turned back at the waterfall because too much snow and higher up we could nicely hear the rumbling of avalanches, otherwise it was very nice! From there onwards better in a few days when the snow settles a bit!

Has anyone perhaps been to Okrešelj or higher towards Savinec in the last days?

6.4 I was at Turski (plus some others) so nice track towards Savinjsko it's already a proper highway. So just boldly into mountains. Road drivable to hut below Rinka waterfall. Iztok

What are conditions to Savinjsko sedlo from Okrešelj? Can we go without crampons or not?

I wouldn't want to mislead you - but since Sunday when I wandered under Grofička conditions haven't changed much. I think to the saddle you need only good boots and gaiters if they help from moisture. Crampons I think surely you won't put on on this path. Also, I will wander there somewhere during holidays and leave them at home. But you can take them and have them in backpack (just in case). Have a nice time and boldly on the trail!

Geppo, how about snow to Klemenče cave?
|
|
|
|
| skiman25. 04. 2008 19:18:03 |
Since snow starts only at Savinja source, in my opinion to Klemenče no problem.

Check - description Strelovc. Snow starts at least 200m elevation difference above Klemenča. To the hut dry. But higher and in shade quite a lot! Regards
