After more than a year, today I turned towards Mangart for the first time this year. Given the weather conditions in recent days, I didn't get further than the last tunnel. They had already cleared the road about a week ago, but due to low temperatures and recent precipitation, they stopped clearing. Fresh snow starts about a kilometer before the last tunnel, but there was just enough to pedal through, with some smaller new avalanches over the road in between. The entrance to the last tunnel wasn't visible. According to latest info, they should start clearing on Wednesday and it will probably be cleared to below Mali vrh in a week. Further on, question if it will be passable. Because of the collapse under Rdeča skala last fall, all the material is still there.

After a week again towards Mangart. But at the last tunnel I see it won't go much further than a week ago. The path from the last tunnel to the hut turnoff is still almost half snow-covered. But they are slowly clearing it. Nevertheless, I manage to get over the landslide and ride to below Mali vrh and then finally to the hut. There's still huge amounts of snow here. Weather almost identical to a week ago, just a bit more fog. On the way back at the last tunnel I meet Igor, who had just pedaled up from the top of Mangart.

The third time's the charm, as they say, and today it held true. On the third attempt this year, first time to the top (Mangart saddle). The road is still closed, probably will remain so until the end of this week. They partially removed the landslide, some more is on the road probably so that cars won't drive to the top. With bike it's normal, just have to carry over the mentioned landslide.

Finally, I could say. Today I also climbed by bike to Mangart saddle. I started in the morning before eight in the center of Bovec and warmed up well to Log pod Mangartom. From there a more serious ascent followed past the village of Strmec to the Mangart road turnoff. There was a short break and refreshment, then the final "assault" to the top. Up to here, except for cars and motorbikes, I hadn't met any cyclists yet, but on the road to the top there was already a real caravan of us. The road is nicely laid out and except for a few sections not too steep. Anyway, I tackled it in tourist pace and stopped for photos in between. The bigger views were spoiled by low clouds, but still it was hot during the ascent. At the saddle it was quite foggy and windy, so a quick descent into the valley followed. At the intersection I turn right and go to Predel too. From there enjoyment on the descent to Log, there it was again at times to push the pedals harder and finish in Bovec.
I met tons of cyclists, lots of motorbikes and cars too, although I expected more of those on the road to the Saddle. But no complaints. Despite somewhat bad weather at the saddle, the tour was excellent!
