To me, the heights of the Mojstrovkas were never clear either. Velika should have 2366, Mala 2332, Zadnja 2354 m. In any case, praises for the trip.

@sirt1, I don't know where you got that info? According to Mihelič it's "saddle in Grebenc", and also on the Julijske Alpe 1:500000 eastern part map, nowhere is it written....probably you have data I don't know?? And also: not Vratca but Vratica (1807m)!! LP B

In Gorenjska there are no Vratica at all but Vratca everywhere, even if you and Mihelič stand on your heads! www.planinske-poti.si

Hello everyone! Thanks to all for praises and critiques. I take all into account for the future! Now looking at the map of the path to Mala Mojstrovka. If memory serves, from Vršič I went left towards the gully described on the map as 'Vratca' or from Vršič is there some other path? I'm not accusing anyone, just good to know..

No... you have your conviction, I'm already standing on my head

zobkii, if you looked at that map then you're not in any mistake, although that pass is wrongly marked according to my conviction! To MM there are also two paths, one over Nad Šitom glavo and one via the very difficult Hanzova path.

On the Jalovec and Mangart map 1:25 000 Slovenian Alpine Association - 2004 edition (Surveying and Mapping Authority of Slovenia) Vratca (1983m) is marked. It's clear this is the passage above the scree, above Tičarjev dom, through which the marked alpine path to Little Mojstrovka passes.

The naming of field points was present long, long before any map. But since language is alive, individual terms also change over time. They know why surveyors don't follow the original names.

Here's a better question: why are the rules of Slovenian phonetics used so selectively in transcribing proper names. Because if we assume that there are no Vratica, only Vratca, then there's no Kranj, Tržič or Begunje either, only Kran, Tržč and Begunje. I mean, local dialect is one thing, but standard Slovenian has its own rules too. Now, why the name Vratca got established in some places, Vratica elsewhere - obviously inconsistency of surveyors.

sirt1, here I don't know if SSKJ is the right reference. It even says that Brežice don't exist - but we all know that's not true

Zebdi, can you exactly indicate where in SSKJ it says that Brežice don't exist. Thanks.
