If you want peace on a hike near Kranjska Gora in August, Kurji vrh is the right choice. Although we've been up there many times, we always like going with the kids. Today too. Around 10am we start right in Kranjska Gora, since we don't plan to return the same way, but via Martuljek by bus. Past Jasna up through the village to the end of the asphalt, then on gravel, at the junction right and another few hundred meters to the starting torrent bed/channel with a cairn. Then the idyll begins, lasting all the way to Ingota. The forest path gets steeper and steeper, zigzagging up to a grassy ridge where it climbs steeply and somewhat exposed for a while. Every now and then a nice view of Prisank appears behind us. When the path levels out and the forest gets darker, undergrowth less, the path disappears, but cairns help, directing us into a long traverse leftward (don't miss it). The path soon becomes clear again, leading past a characteristic rock wedged between three trees, and anthills start multiplying (with kids we shorten the walk with interpretations why it's called Hen Peak (because it's cold up there and you get goosebumps, because they burned chickens there etc.), and conclude it should really be called Anthill Peak, since you rarely see so many anthills). When crossing under a rock slab and over a small gully, we start climbing more distinctly again. The path then traverses a characteristic clearing overgrown with lush undergrowth, then gets lost again under fallen trees. The leftward traverse turns here (don't miss it) followed by a rightward one that's slippery, as the path hangs quite a bit. Then the path turns upward again in zigzags onto the ridge, then quickly back to traversing rightward. Here we reach the nicest part of the whole path, when between the pines ahead opens a view of Lake Jasna and Vitranc, at about our height. About 200m elevation and 300m distance to the summit left. That means steep. Indeed follows the hardest part, steep and somewhat exposed climb to the top at spots (not really dangerous mostly, as a fall ends just scratched and bruised among pines). Before the summit, another characteristic plateau cheers us, a grassy promontory with great view of Mojstrovka and Bavški Grintavec in the back. Then the last steep ascent among pines (one 2m traverse here more exposed, could end badly on fall; if marked path, it'd have a cable). Past junction where right branches path to Rušica. Finally, after 2.5 hours from Kranjska Gora, even slight descent to the summit clearing (not quite the true summit, but logbook there). It's just bare enough for view into dark slopes of Martuljek mountains one side and sunny Karavanke slopes the other, and sheltered just enough by dwarf pines and larches to stay hidden. No goosebumps on top , so we linger quite a bit. Then descend north side, quite nasty steep scree descent (due to rains few days ago terrain damp enough not too slippery today) until 200m lower into traverse on steep slippery grass bypassing whole Kurji vrh slopes ending at PP rock (gullies here silted incredibly from this year's rains, material carried hundreds meters down even to forest below with characteristic mossy spring). From here down no problems, routine descent until characteristic colossal anthill monument persisting here for years. Here we decide straight down (right would pass hunter's hut to path to Pod srcem cirque). Path gradually becomes track resembling gully toward end. Reach road from Gozd Martuljek. Right on road, at junction decide to pop to Ingota. Only here first hikers all day. At Ingota look right up to see where we were, sweeten up a bit, then past first waterfall to Zg. Rute station and bus at 16:22 back to Kranjska Gora.
