hi, I'm interested in the conditions on the trail to Kredarica from Krma. Is it safe to visit the weathermen yet (this week)? regards

Snowy, there's never 100 % safety in the mountains. Even more so before New Year's Eve.

I'm curious how it is to go to Kredarica in winter and from which direction. I was thinking of starting from Pokljuka at the beginning of March (is there an easier route?). I'm curious what I must necessarily have with me in winter besides (crampons, ice axe, helmet, ropes,?) and if March is a suitable time. Namely, I've never been in the high mountains in winter except for smaller ascents like Uršlja and Menina. I'd rather join some group. Can someone give me some advice?

I don't know, if you don't have some big winter feats behind you, definitely better wait at least till early summer. Regardless of direction, winter ascent to Kredarica is tough and lengthy. Avalanche risk in March in the Julian Alps surely even bigger than now, tons of snow still... So March imo not a term at all for inexperienced hikers.

In the morning it's usually hard, later it sinks in.

Andrej, thanks. So, if I go tomorrow, there shouldn't be a problem with the track?

There might be a problem, indeed it's currently snowing at Kredarica and the snow line seems to be around 1700m, lower down it's raining. If it doesn't clear up, the track will be quite soggy higher up, frozen. Currently at Kredarica -5 degrees. Best regards, Štefan

I was there yesterday. I have to say it was one of the best ski tours so far. In the last few days up there about 30 cm of new snow fell so everything was covered. And no one ahead of us with my buddy. Really virgin. It sinks quite a bit so I recommend really early rising. The road was just yesterday plowed further from Kovinarska koča. Not quite to the end but enough. I wish nice weather this weekend. Baay

I'm also thinking about Kredarica this weekend. If there was someone proper right next to me, I'd climb Triglav (if conditions were right).

Yesterday at Kredarica. Weather despite variable forecast mostly sunny. Below it sinks quite a bit so good to have snowshoes or touring skis. At the top by the hut ca. 50 cm fresh snow. Great tour and demanding. LP

How far can you drive with the car in Radovna? Thanks!

On Saturday I was at Kredarica. With the car you can drive 15 min walk further from Kovinarska koča, where there is space for a few cars. You can leave it also by the road where there is space. Good luck.
