On Sunday 4.1., the last free day I'm thinking where to head to the hills, as I planned to go to Konmo but buddy couldn't make it, alone I won't go either. Well I decide for nearby Kopitnik. I also take paraglider, conditions good to descend with it to the valley. Start from Rimske Toplice past Lurd chapel. Weather cloudless, clear, no wind and cold. After good hour already at takeoff, bit ahead of hut towards Kopitnik top. Snow about 10-15 cm. Immediately unfold glider for takeoff, and happily fly to valley where my Uršika already waits.

On Saturday "walk" to Kopitnik, from Rimske Toplice, from in front of the church. BP path, weather ok, a bit cold, up there still quite white winter...

They say morning is best in the morning. Anyway frozen stiff from train arriving at Zidani Most station at 3am, headed to Kopitnik, 910m. Up through Širje by full moon and through Gore with cm snow to top about hour before sunrise. Down direct through Velika Širje to train at 10am.
Day is completely different.
(Here comes the sun I sang at -5°C :-)

Yesterday Esther and I from Rimske Toplice headed to Kopitnik. To top ascended via path past church Our Lady of Lourdes in Ogeči (Lurd), descended via path past hamlet Borovo. Both paths normally passable, just few spots muddier due to rain past days.

True, not quite fresh info, but fyi, in this area saw fresh bear tracks that day, bit adrenaline, so we quick with fast pace changed walking direction , instead home quick first to top.
As for markings, another story.

To Kopitnik we went from village Širje. At start followed markings to direction Gore, then at well visible fork turned to Kopitnik. Path well marked all way, steep only initial part. First ascended to top, then stopped at hut which is very nicely set up.

Rimske Toplice - Hrastnik: Morning was  right one, still some night chill, 4:52 Poljčane & at 5:45 new day in Rimske Toplice. Still sleepy settlement and rail station of course first contact with place under mighty Kopitnik massif. Cheerful teens - assume sleepless too got off train...and we with buddy Vinko facing new challenge and connections between Savinja and Sava...Path via Lurd to Kopitnik and real challenge in morning that sun relentlessly carved more into day. Flashes of spirituality and silence at Lurd church but sturdy step to hut uphill while chatting about this and that, at Kopitnik and top of course for - height of day. View from top excellent., still some fog in valley. Continuation extension to hut in Gore and more on hiking themes conversation thread ran. Of course to subsidiary church St. George parish Dol pri Hrastnik, which was pleasantly in glow of earthly - Sunday peace and kind of supreme spiritual protector is St. George, places nearby and wider area...
Next some path section that interested me most and was complete novelty. Into world towards Dol pri Hrastnik we set step and in talk switched to theme of hard and strenuous mining/miner tradition and modest hard-earned bread crust. Mining somehow marks these places, sadly more in past. In this path section connecting links certainly Rovškov hrib and Kovk, which additionally represent this unique and somewhat own world between Dol and Hrastnik. Still pleasant Krnice above Hrastnik and quickly we dropped to Hrastnik – one of three main pillars of mining tradition and pride. Still some time left and we set somewhat step towards Kum via path over Matica to end of big meadow somewhere basic acquaintance of path start. 11:45 hour, meaning end and also departure from mining areas.

Weather calendar appropriate, paths dry. Old good Kopitnik with surrounding points always freshness and right measure for tour to taste, not too short not too long, I'd say – just right. Hiking activity we somewhat extended with path via Lurd and Rovškov hrib/ Kovk of course planned, to get somewhat wider view into space between Rimske Toplice and Hrastnik. Still interesting note at Hrastnik station somewhere in style - ,,We like you Hrastnik hooligans,, and somewhere I return message in style ,,Interesting places, we'll return and miners Good luck. The hiking path is somewhat poorly marked in the section between the hut on Gorah and the junction to Dol pri Hrastnik - it would be necessary to renew mainly the markings, while further on the path through Kovk and Zavrate to the junction with the path from Hrastnik the marking is even more deficient or in the form of red five-pointed stars, already heavily faded as it's also an NOB path. This path is also much less visited as seen, which is logical as we take shortcuts somewhere and mainly locals use it. In pre-tour preparation I expected this somewhere and it didn't surprise me in practice. Locals however extremely friendly, ready to help with information...Lp

A mountaineer who goes to the spa for a week can't go without hills. While the wife was bathing in Rimske Terme, I went alone twice to Kopitnik (via Ogeški stream valley and past Lurd), which is only 914 m high, elevation difference about 700 m, so at least I didn't fully drop out of mountaineering. Paths go through the forest, the summit also has some cables.

Kopitnik from the direction of Zidani Most. Rambling in the lee of stone towers, past the Orlovo gnezdo bivouac to the top and return on the marked path. Nicely spent morning with attractive vistas.
