Keeping a mountaineering diary

Print
Mate0710. 10. 2009 00:28:30
Hello

Is there maybe anyone else here on this portal who keeps a mountaineering diary?
My example for 2009:
- 9 goals
- 30 km of hiked paths (one way counted)
- 7000 meters of elevation
I won't write details, but I'll just add which peaks I was on...
Tošč
Krvanka
Stol
Vršič
SKI Vogel / Šija
Krvavec, Vel.Zvoh
Kamniško sedlo
Debela peč
Storžič
Maybe unimportant
"Of course the greatest achievement is that at my (115)kg and height(177)cm I achieved incredible goals (in previous years I almost didn't go to the mountains)"
In 2010 I hope for 2x more goals.

Keeping a diary is interesting. I've done it for 5 years, I enter the date, goal, elevation, duration, starting point, with whom, and elevation difference in meters, only uphill. And a small photo taken with the mobile next to it. It's useful when you go again or search for trips, or just like that. On New Year's Day I do a "settlement", write new plans... This year it added up to:
- 80 goals (Šmarna gora doesn't count)
- about 90,000 meters of elevation
- at least 30 two-thousanders and one three-thousander (almost 4)
I hope for more nice days, otherwise it won't be "record". Nice anyway!

Yes, mountaineering diary. I've been writing it for 15 years although I'm only 26 years old. I describe starting point and important points and return back. (example: Kam. Bistrica - Kam. sedlo - Brana - Kam. sedlo - Kam. bistrica.

Otherwise this year there were quite a few nice trips: Trnovski gozd (Javornik, Čaven, Mali golak), Storžič-Dom pod Storžičem - Planinski dom na kališču, Češka koča - Kočna, Zelenica - Begunjščica - Roblek - Preval, Vršič -Prisojnik, Planina Razor - Vogel, Ski hotel Vogel- Šija - Rodica - Črna prst, Okrešelj- Savinjsko sedlo

Anyway kilos aren't such a problem, I have 110 too and I'm 176 tall.velik nasmeh

Only when you have 40kg less will you see what you're really capable of.

It's nice to keep a diary, nice to have goals too.
But in the first post there's too much emphasis on weight. I think weight shouldn't be an obstacle to conquering goals. I think fitness and will are more important, because with will you can achieve a lot.

It's precisely the will, desire and love for the mountains that brought me to these goals.

Commendable, Guest! Although the topic is diary, I can't pass by the kg you mentioned (probably wouldn't if they didn't bother you). Keep it up. In a year or two, when the mountains conquer you to the point that you want a trip every weekend, you'll be amazed where they disappear to. And as Joža x and Bojangr wrote - both are true. Good luck!nasmeh

Regarding "extra" kilos: surely "extra" kilos are "harmful" to health when hiking in mountains. I assume that the guest (115 kg and 177 cm) and smidov david (110 kg and 176 cm) are still younger; bigger problems from kilos and mountain hiking appear in later years. So use your head and bring your weight to normal. From my own experience I advise you: losing weight can't be done just with more exercise, but it is necessary to change diet. Just my example: June 2007 (85 kg and 180 cm), thought I was hiking mountains. Today 63 kg and only now see what fitness for mountain hiking is.
I support your will, but advise use your head for later years.
Good luck!nasmeh

I've been keeping a diary since 1983, when I started going to real mountains; a lot of data has accumulated, from weather to people I met, events happy and sad. Otherwise in this time 1957 days in mountains, I never calculated elevation differences because it's not important to me, some mountains counted and repeat every year even multiple times, many only once, would like to repeat many, don't set goals, when I can and weather suitable I gladly go. Last years around 150 days per year just right dose of mountain beauties.

Some of you have been VERY active mountaineers for a LONG time.

I also became a more active member of the then PZS in 1983, when Comrade was still written before name and surname. At the beginning my buddy and I cleared all Dolomites, all on foot from his house in Medno to Tošč. Often before adulthood we took the bus to Bohinj, Mojstrana or Kranjska gora, then feet on path. Once from Mojstrana we needed a good part of the day to reach through Krma to Vodnikov dom, next day besieged Tošč and Draške vrhove, then home to Srednja vas. That was reliving tours that normally happened much before those years, in years of Joža Čop i.e. old climbers. Never led climbs, but at beginning diligently collected stamps on peaks and licked them multiple times so they stick and proof at home where we were. Didn't record path descriptions in books. I still vividly remember when we camped at Pl. Jezerce 1720m with single nylon tent, where due to cold we turned every half hour checking time. Later morning it turned out coldest in tent, on ridges pleasantly warm, then on to Debeli vrh. For isotonic old Cedevita and home apples, gear only Alpina and Planika and Porenta backpack, since no specialized alpine shops then. We went to Slovenijašport at Evropa. How happy we were then first nylon pants Nike in Nama, which were rarity (only raincoat), so not wet walking on dewy grass.

Diary, actually I keep photos the last three years when I go to the hills. I also hiked in young years there somewhere up to 15 years, then puberty, when you are most stupid, and up to somewhere 27 years nothing. I also had problems with weight 117kg/90cm now 90kg. A bit of mountain running, and on flat, fitness of course no heavy food in the evening.

I join pikec1, I also keep a special "mountaineering photo diary". On most trips, even where I have been, I always take photos and so I have collected a nice number of albums so far. I sort photos by date. At the beginning of the album I add a note with remarks, or I write them directly on the back of the photos.

Mate07, blogs and web albums are elegant, but I tell you, nothing beats the booklet where you also stamp stamps.

I keep mountaineering diaries since 1987. In them I record where I was, with whom I was, how the weather was, walking time, personal feeling, also whom I met on the path or in the mountain hut. I always add at least two photos. Believe me, you will take it in hand every year more gladly.

We have been keeping it for 10 years already. In them we write when, where, how long, on the top I always photograph the kids, and the stamp is always there too.
Of course, I also write the walking time and altitude difference.
Since we hike as a family and go multiple times to the same hill, it is really interesting to read how much time we walked 5 or more years ago when the kids were smaller and say this year when they rush to some hill like chamois.

I keep it only from 2008 onwards, in 2008 I achieved very few goals and those weren't higher than 1650 meters, this year hm I wrote above.
I just note mountain name, starting point name, altitude difference, walked path.
Other data I don't enter, because I could hike to the top fast and rest very little or the opposite....
Mountains are eternal, I am not ... I'll have many opportunities in life to conquer mountains.

When I was younger I went to mountains more or less with father, but also sometimes with mountaineering circle. Well, already then I had diaries (young mountaineer, ciciban mountaineer). Later when I had driver's license, then just in some notebook and only wrote summit, date and elevation and pressed the stamp.
Well, last year I bought this: http://www.mladinska.com/slovenske_gore/darilo-_moj_planinski_dnevnik
I must admit that the diary pleases me very much, so I tackled a big project. From all past diaries, notebooks and photo albums I listed all summits where I was, some missing ones I got from father's diary. So now I actually have written practically almost all summits in my life, entered only summits, various afternoon "Lipanc" not entered.
Now I plan to visit all these summits again and stamp the missing stamps velik nasmeh
