Which route are you planning to take? Weather forecast for Sunday isn't the nicest. Nice mountain greetings

Probably Krvavec past Zvoh and on. Snow can be really wind-blown otherwise without crampons and gaiters it's probably not worth such a tour cuz you might regret all the hassles. Wind might be the biggest problem imo - today I was at Kam.sedlo and it blew me good.

29.12 we were with gf at Vrh korena from Zvoh along ridge. Path is normal, no crampons or axe needed, patches hard snow mostly soft-no time to hop to Kalški greben-descended via lower easier path to Kriška planina. gr

Thanks for replies. But which path? Considering two variants: From Gospiča past long meadows (over Zvoh seems more demanding to me) or start from Pdbelce - Roblekov kot - Dolge njive... If anyone has experience which is easier and shorter in winter, please comment. nice mountain greeting to all and lots of nice tours in 08!

Given the bad weather forecast I'd rethink at your place ... Kalški Greben is an exceptional viewpoint after all! Well anyway, in some thick fog it'll be unpleasant from any side. Good luck.

Does anyone know the current condition of the road from Kokra to Roblek? Thanks for the reply.

I was on Kal yesterday, conditions excellent, on crampons there was balling!

Hm, would it go without crampons, this balling doesn't suit me too much.

I'm wondering which route you use in winter for ascent to the mentioned summit? I'm thinking of going from Kriška planina via planina Koren and vrh Korena, or from Gospinca via Dolge njive. What do you recommend? Thanks

I recommend the ascent from Kriška planina to you. This path seems much nicer to me, and I've always gone this way in winter time too.

How does someone always imagine winter ascents without crampons??? Have crampons always with you, especially where it's icy and dangerous for slipping. Crampons, gaiters and ice axe belong to mandatory winter gear, so let's always have that with us. If balling forms, knock with ice axe on crampons and problem solved. And nice greeting and luck in mountains Sebastjan

What about the road from Ambrož to Kriška planina? Is it passable without chains just with winter tires?

I didn't say that I don't have winter gear with me on winter ascents, I just wondered if it's possible without crampons.

Last weekend it was only possible with difficulty to reach Kriško. At least that's what the colleague who drove up said. Others put on chains, but I think now it's warmed up enough that it could go. If it's possible without crampons, you best see that by deciding based on the temperatures. I think it would be possible without crampons, especially if the upper crust has softened. Last time when we did a snow profile on Krvavec, the upper layer of frozen snow was very thin, so I think it would go. But take them anyway, if there is some icy patch somewhere (especially where there is shade all day). And safe and good luck.
