today at Kališče I enjoyed a nice day. path without peculiarities, as usual. More hikers than I expected for Thursday

Yesterday's winter fairy tale on the Bašelj - Kališče path. On the way down I met loads of other hikers, so I reckon the trail is well trodden today (probably a bit frozen in places).

Today I expected more winter conditions with trampling new snow. There was only about ten centimeters, completely southern-facing. Trees were dripping on me. Mists were racing by, but it was nice anyway.

After work to the hut at Kališče. Strong thaw. Descent in the dark. Path without peculiarities.

This afternoon there was no such idyll, thick fog, four degrees below zero and no wind, but it was already strongly biting towards evening in Moste p.K. Tomorrow starts a five-day polar winter though.

The best birthday gift. New untouched powder towards Kališče. Up to about halfway new snow up to 5 cm. Up to here occasional footprints from the previous day were visible. In a few elevation meters conditions completely changed. The forerunner gave up and went back. I put on snowshoes but still sank to ankles, often to knees. Cause is wind that covered the track with new snow. To the hut took me good two and a half hours. Little sun, real Siberian cold. Returned same path, just a few times straight down. If no new snow and wind, path now passable even without snowshoes.

Yesterday it was OK, a bit the crust broke through. From Storžič and surroundings rumbling, but I didn't photograph the sun  Below martinčki, in the middle wet, above it holds.

Morning visit in light snowfall. With a slightly higher car you can drive to the stream. There was no forecast frost, so the descent was a nice slide on icy snow.

Yesterday my better half and I decided to visit the mountain hut at Kališče today (our four-legged friend kept us company). Weather super, path in excellent condition (considering this winter), markings nicely visible... path nicely passable. Dry to lower Kališče, further to the mountain hut still snow. It will probably be gone next week too . Views were incredible... view towards Krvavec, Julian Alps (Triglav shining in all its glory) and of course Storžič, which is still heavily snow-covered (we tried to continue a bit but it sank deeply - wet snow, maybe possible in early morning hours). But we decided to treat ourselves to something to eat, the decision fell on goulash with sausage. We must praise the caretaker and the cook, they are very friendly, food excellent... we will surely return and "hop" to Storžič too, of course when conditions allow. Safe steps to all further.
