Hello! I haven't seen a thread anywhere about buying hiking pants, fleece shirts etc. I'm interested where the most affordable or ideal place to buy hiking pants for a casual hiker is? Iglu has a large selection but the prices are quite high, as probably the goods are too, right? Lp

Hiking pants from original Schoeller are made to measure or on order also at Betotex Škofja Loka. They are masters of their profession, because their pants fit like you don't have them on. Prices are also affordable relative to custom work. They are very professional and expert.

ON LINE, from Zabreznica http://www.on-line.si/, otherwise it's worth paying a bit more for clothes, don't be stingy, as befits US Gorenjci...

lp, I'm looking for some very high-quality summer hiking pants for hikes in high mountains. They can also be ones that zip off at the knee. they should be lightweight and breathable but at the same time durable. In the flood of them on the market I somehow can't decide. Do you have any suggestion, or what do you recommend from experience. Price is no criterion. Thanks

Completely fresh experience from Gornik store. I arrive, say what I want, try on what they have, but that's not quite the right one yet. Then a girl comes from the nearby workshop, measures me, we agree on all my wishes (not a few) and I tell them by phone. When the pants are ready they call me. Price slightly higher than the model on the shelf. As for durability and quality it's second-hand info. Friend and her colleague have been satisfied for some years.

But not only those two have been satisfied for many years and that with summer and winter ones...

Already for some years Gornik pants and shirts. Similar experiences as Dare29, good material, durable.

Also for demanding hikers, a lot of good and useful stuff is found in Lidl and Hofer. Larger part of hiking/climbing/cycling gear is actually stuff from Hofer/Lidl. I buy specialized only shoes, winter pants and winter jacket. And of course tech

Come on, stop with Hofer and Lidl stuff, maybe that folk doesn't notice when they buy cheap sneakers at gas stations ... But Sunday hikers, that's not those who go somewhere every weekend monthlies.

I think Tol's answer is completely correct. What's listed below is that pure basis, with everything else compromises are possible. Look, I haven't bought sports underwear in my life yet. Just that. Aha, I have two pairs of hiking pants. But in summer I still often go on tour in sweatpants. I don't know what the problem is.

I have Swiss base layer from Lidl and Hofer and from Iglija. There is quite a big difference in quality, so for high mountains I use only Iglija's. For nice summer weather all are good of course, in bad weather the differences show.

Yeah, I'd say no... Bullshit that lots of gear for demanding hikers is found in Hofer and Lidl, sell that to others. Good for "dressing up" around the lake and cream cakes, but when you hit "real" conditions in high mountains you won't regret a single cent spent on top gear... From shoes upwards!

Well, dunno, I wouldn't write off Lidl and Hofer so quickly. Out of 5 pairs of running socks I have, the Lidl ones are by far the best. Same for cycling gloves... you gotta think well where you buy a certain thing and especially what functionality you expect from it

I stick to the saying: "I'm not so rich that I can buy so cheaply". I'm the type who basically prefers to pay a few € more for quality that will last long and at least feel better. Dunno, 100 people, 100 marvels. I don't say that some Swiss top, some gloves and what I'd call small gear can't really be good from Lidl or Hofer, but when it comes to shoes and upper clothing, especially everything around safety, I wouldn't agree with those two stores. Here I'd rather look for better quality even if it's a bit more expensive.

I too would say that stuff from Hofer and Lidl isn't that bad. I myself have quite a few things for both cycling and hiking and I'm just as satisfied with them as with those from specialized stores. And not just small stuff. For example, I'm very satisfied with the long hiking pants and also the cycling gloves. True as Juš says, there's not much choice, and only occasionally.
