Grintovec at night

Today I set off to Grintovec with two more colleagues. We started hiking around 2 (two) a.m. (no mistake; with full winter gear), from the cable car to the end of the forest the snow was quite firm, from the forest towards Kokrško sedlo and onwards of course mandatory crampons, ice axe. Almost no avalanching, pure silence, darkness and good mood. Towards the top it blew stronger and stronger, dispersing fog for us to see the sunrise. It started dawning slowly but we ascended slowly due to wind throwing snow in our faces. Hellish cold (over -20), when we arrived at the top but stayed only for a few photos, yet worth it. Didn't experience sunrise at top but ca. 100 m lower on return. Unforgettable experience, something wonderful, and of course very cold and windy.

Really nice and I think quite bold deed. But I'm more interested how to dress in such conditions. Especially what pants and where you bought them

Yes really sunrise in mountains is the most beautiful. I experienced it this winter on Debelo peč, which can't compare to Grintovec, but still. Bravo guys. LP Andrej

Nice greeting!
As the colleague described, it was really fantastic!
About clothes: I had too little on, should have dressed before the "roof", at least better gloves; hands so frozen at the top that I couldn't even take one pic!
Wore running pants Loffler underneath, over them Vrh Schoeller pants, top Swiss shirt, second layer and softshell all Halti (excellent quality I must say), gloves MAYA MAYA for 4€nasmeh
when fingers already stiff, swapped for down gloves, perfect!

Gotta repeat this, guys nasmeh !!!!!!!!!!!

We also saw a whole herd of chamois, which is quite rare, maybe they didn't smell us because of the wind.6

Really wonderful, that day I was on Lepenatka and with my husband we observed this storm, as even from afar you could see the snowy wind. We tried to conquer Rogatec too, but we rather gave up almost below the summit, as we didn't expect such a path, we were without crampons, we came over another pass then ..., too dangerous for slipping. Really admirable, but I'm sure all participants are quite well experienced with winter ascents. Good luck!

What are the conditions like for ski touring from Grintovec. Is it too icy?

pikec19. 02. 2008 20:09:59
For skiing the conditions are good as tracks of skiers and snowboarders are visible. Not icy, I think the snow is ideal, at least for me it would be if I went snowboarding. So go boldly.

Yeah, I personally if I went I would ski below Kokrško sedlo all the way to the forest, it depends on you how well you master it, good luck

Hello!

Old man!!
You really gave me the idea, I couldn't help but go to Grintovec on Friday afternoon. Started 15.20 at the cable car. It was really fine. Some hikers were returning as I was pushing up the slope. When the sun was just setting, I was right on the roof, so just right for nice picsnasmeh
Another half hour and at the top, where I cheer.
Really wonderful! Alone, silence, sun has set. Day said goodbye. Unforgettable. I stop a bit, dazed by all the beauty, take some pics, put on crampons and head down to the valley.....
