Danger in the mountains

Print
Mate076. 06. 2010 18:51:05
It was fun while it lasted. While I walked on easy paths or partially difficult ones, I was sure that on difficult tours it would also be quite "easy", but no. Last year I did 9000 meters of elevation in the mountains, easy paths. This year I also went to the difficult part: Kepa (crumbly dangerous section right below the summit) + Košutnikov turn - East path (all ok until I got to that narrow ridge, where you MUST put on a harness).
I go to the mountains alone; maybe it would be easier with some company, but how if there's none.
Now I've obviously completely lost the will for these difficult paths.

Mate07, take a deep breath and wait a little (just a little) until the thing ripens.
Dangers in the mountains definitely exist, but one of them is also fear.
Every thing is much worse the first time than the next.
I think that if you hike alone, you have a great opportunity to toughen up well and get to know yourself. You'll succeed in that if you forget the negative experience. Otherwise, only an accident should be negative; the other experiences can primarily be a good lesson. There's no such school in books, of course.mežikanje
Also, anything "by force" here just won't work.
Much joy and satisfaction ahead!

I can only advise you not to venture on difficult paths alone. Sometimes in company a difficult section seems much easier than it really is, plus moral support is right there. If you're still heading out alone on difficult paths I recommend visiting Veliki Rogatec and maybe Raduha from the north side. Both paths are short, perfect for testing your will to visit secured paths.
Safe steps to you!

I'll just ask here if there's any chance.

Could we arrange with this portal, with you who like visiting mountains, to agree once a month for one trip and go to one mountain, but not easy or partially difficult but demanding ones.
Let's set one date, mandatory Saturday/Sunday and if weather OK we go.

We all have the same goal, reach the mountain summit.

Bravo Mate07. I'm not too much for company in mountains but you gave good advice. I recommend to you Path of Life on Vevnica or Via Amalia on Montaz; those are super ferratas mežikanjemežikanje AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU DO THEM ALONE DURING THE WEEK cool

BT88 - a bit mean though; climbing paths like Rogac, Raduha, Peca, Stol ... one thing and real hardest ferratas another. Mateo probably wasn't asking about paths.
But Mateo in mountains you're never alone (except off-trail); you'll surely meet someone on the path and join him. I'm sure everyone will be willing to help and give some advice; I myself have no bad experiences.

Yeah, well, Peca and Stol really aren't climbing paths. But apologies zadrega if it was meant differently, apologies again, I thought we were talking about climbing paths, those are ferratas nasmeh

Borrow the book 50 climbing paths and you'll see how those difficulties are described, I've already read a bit of it myself so I'm not talking off the top of my head.

Yeah, just reading it and the first described climbing path is in Primorska, Furlanova path on Gradiška Tura, small ferratina, that's a climbing path, but I think Stol mežikanje from Zirovnica isn't in the guide because I don't know where to climb there.

Stol from Austrian side, if not in this book then in some other guide, I have quite a few at home - obligatory literature.
And turn the debate elsewhere because this seems like thrashing empty straw again, convince yourself and comment, no hard feelings.

If you're under 30 they'll probably be glad to have you in every youth section. Some places still have senior sections, for in-between it's really missing if you don't want to go on guided trips.

I admit I really like hiking alone in the mountains and that's a big plus because I can hike uninterrupted to the top, I can turn back anytime and go back, you have peace, ....
the downside is the risk on difficult paths.

BT88 - Feratka - but you really have no relation to difference in your surroundings, let alone on the forum, so much self-love oozes from your posts, ....

Mate07, definitely try going on some more demanding tour with some mountaineering section, then you'll see. There is definitely a big difference if you hike with a group or alone.

Best regards and good luck.

No, if you're somewhere near Ljubljana, you're invited to our youth section (mo-pdljmatica.si). There we're all about that age, slowly the season for very demanding rocky tours is starting. This weekend Rombon is planned, which isn't demanding, but currently there's still enough snow up there to make it a challenge, if it isn't postponed (judging by today's photos it's still quite dangerous).
