Ceria Merlone

Yesterday some of us gathered with the aim to hike Ceria Merlone. Some lucky ones have already done the via ferratas around Špiki there, others have them on the wish list, some of us overnighted on Corsiju, others were day trippers. To not return all to the starting point, we left the car in the valley below the hut and two of us drove to pl. Pecol from where we started in not particularly friendly weather. Mists accompanied us the whole way, here and there it lifted so we could at least partially follow that wonderful traverse. Definitely need to repeat in nice weather to get the feel of those ledges, views. A bit before the nice new bivouac on Špik nad Nosom the sun greeted us and allowed beautiful vistas, a bit lower then back into mists. When we return to the car, the friend realizes he left the keys in the car at Pecol. From this unpleasant situation a nice couple from Goriški Kras rescues us, who drive them to the alpine pasture for the car... Urša and Andrej, once again sincere thanks for the service, you really cheered us up with your kindnessnasmehnasmehnasmeh

Does anyone perhaps know how long the full traverse from Montasio to Viš would take?
Up via Amalia up, left path, Ceria Merlone, then on Anita Goitan path to Viš and on to the turnoff for Pellarini hut and back to Zajzera.
In 1 day, has anyone done it? Thinking for next year. I somehow calculated around 21h for normal marked hiking.
It would probably halve.

Cheers

Wow, that would be a tour. If you just go Zajzera - Montasio - Špik nad Cjanarco - Špik Hude police - Špik nad Špranjo - past Prednja Špranja to Mazzeni bivouac and back to parking in Zajzera, that's already a big chunk for an average hiker in one day. Your loop is even longer and you won't be back in 11h unless you're a good runner nasmeh

No way to halve the timetable. If memory serves, Nejc Kuhar needed around 12h for Amalia - Left - Ceria Merlone with descent via Prednja špranja notch past Majcen bivouac. Then A Goitan is a nice continuation, quite tricky is the descent through the Zaj... Trbiška notch.
Question also where to leave the car: at Planina Zajzera or at 2nd parking where start for Pellarini hut, to shorten the way to start.
Problem also that days are now much shorter. I assume you don't know these ends that well, hence the dimensions of the mentioned paths. Better split the planned tour into 2 days enjoyably, Luka Vuerich bivouac on Špik nad Nosom is ideal for that (no better view for sunrise and sunset!).

Dejan, nicely take your girl with you, she will enjoy the tour just as much as klm already wrote, romance and sleeping in the new nicely equipped bivouac outweighs any rushing...nasmeh

Next year, when the day is longer (avg) I will definitely try this, the route can still be shortened (Viš-Gola NO, but that probably wouldn't come into play because of the lower snow crossing). I'm sure that around 13 hours this can be done. Alone I definitely won't, there will be some good runner with me. With my girl I will definitely do it, but more relaxed. In 3h 30min to Montaža should suffice.
I know you will pick on me, just thinking aloudnasmeh.

Before you do the desired tour, check it out live in stages, what kind of project you've set yourself. Descent via Gola NO?!!

Don't worry it will all be walked sooner, and maybe some drink organized before Višnasmeh, and next year I'll tell you klm, if it worked.

When we were in these parts a few years ago, there was no bivouac on top of Špik nad Nosom yet. Yesterday early morning we started at Planina Pecol, continued on the path to Špik Hude police and below the summit turned to Ceria Merlone path to Špik nad Nosom. The path is fully dry, some snow remains only on the scree of Škrbine nad Tratico at the entry to the climbing part, which we easily bypass. A bit higher in the protected section a piton is pulled out, so the cable is fixed only at the upper end. No issues there either. Nice weather, no wind, occasionally fog from the valley obscured views to almost all peaks. Otherwise the path was quite solitary yesterday, we met only one Italian, not even as many chamois as we're used to here. The bivouac impressed us, due to its location as well as the interior and surroundings arrangement, including a WC with probably the best view. The bivouac is built in memory of the Trbiž alpinist Luca Vuerich, who tragically ended his life in 2010 climbing an icefall in Prisojnik.

We too yesterday in fog walked the same path as LEGENDA. Visibility was good despite low clouds. At the bivouac it even cleared up, on return it was almost completely clear. I'd add only that we didn't go down to Škrbina Sprednje Špranje, but took the unmarked military mule track directly to Rifugio Cregnadul and saved a full hour of walking. On the way back we could also feast on delicious raspberries. I was on this path for the first time and must say it exceptionally captivated and thrilled me. Truly beautiful!!!nasmeh

I park halfway on the road towards Pecol, then up to planina Larice and right along the road to planina Krni dol. From there unmarked path to Vrh Krnega dola and on along Ceria-Merlone to Škrbina nad Tratico and down the "direct" to hut Brazza, then road to planina Larice and to the car. On the section Vrh Krnega dola - Škrbina nad Dolino, at the most annoying spot a peg has been pulled out, right after a torn cable, otherwise described secured path without issues. But you can see it's been very little walked this year eek

Here where you started, I descended from this path and returned to planina Pekol via this macadam, because I wouldn't have gotten back on time if I did the whole Ceria-Merlone trail. As far as I know it's recommended to go in a pair with two cars or with a group, so they drop you off at one end and pick you up at the other. This beautiful bivouac really impressed me.

On Saturday one of my options is the Ceria Merlone trail. I'll probably go one-day solo via hut Corsi, all the way to Špik Hude Police and hut Brazza... How to get back fastest (on foot nasmeh ) to starting point Cave del Mole? Is there a marked trail under the mountains to Viška Planina for example? Thanks in advance for reply.. Or is it still better from Neveja pass? regards
