Yesterday 16.8. my husband and I were on our first 3000er. We started at 7am from Dosner Alm and returned very satisfied to the car at 17pm. For our ascent to Sauleck we chose the via ferrata, which challenged us well to the summit logeekSo from there we continued on the right side pathless to the top. A year ago we visited Cjajnik for the second time, which in our opinion is much easier (regarding arm strength). But up to the Arthur von Schmid Haus hut at ca.2272m it's very nice nasmeh.Visiting Sauleck via normal route is accessible to all who like to go to the mountains....nasmeh

Nice greetings. I have a question for those who have already done the mentioned tour. I'm interested if there are nice views from the top (I won't go just because it's a 3000er) and how demanding the via ferrata is compared to Slovenian climbing paths, what rank would you put it in (maybe compared to Storžice, how much more demanding and if you needed a via ferrata set)?
thanks

There are no such demanding via ferratas in Slovenia (except Gožnarca). Significantly more demanding than Storžič. Via ferrata set is necessary in any case.

Views from Sauleck are awesome, especially on the lakes.

Views are beautiful. The via ferrata is demanding. The start is mainly on friction, then the wall stands vertical without holds. You need all arm strength for pulling on the cable. From the summit log onwards there are more holds and it gets nicer and nicer. The best is the ridge with stacked granite blocks and not much more space than one meter. Without set I wouldn't go. Good luck

Big thanks for the two quick replies. We'll go via Buderusweg, next year we'll train a bit on Slovenian climbing paths, then head to the top via ferrata. Mountain greetings

How can someone even compare the ferrata on Sauleck, which reaches D/E difficulty in several places, with Storžič?????????? And at the end even asks if you needed a via ferrata set????? Well, good that this master didn't ask if you maybe needed a helmet???? If there are nice views???? Oh, what questions... You know, master zico10, from Interspar in Jesenice you can see part of the ironmongery so there's no need to go up there... I mean!!!velik nasmehvelik nasmehvelik nasmehvelik nasmehzmeden

Kita, I don't know what the problem is... I myself started hiking in the mountains this year and I'm going gradually, also before ascents I like to ask around because I like reading comments from experienced hikers, from whom you get a quick and correct answer.
For this mountain only two routes are described on hribi.net, so I asked about the ferrata since nothing is written about it up here. I've always stuck to the saying that no question is stupid, only the answer can be stupid.
By starting to hike I've also accepted mountaineering etiquette, which shows on forums too, so your such comments seem senseless to me, but everyone has their way of writing, I respect quick and correct answers of Bojan and Franci, to you I recommend directing your sarcasm energy to helping or guiding us hikers who are just beginning our path, since I don't doubt you have lots of hiking experience.
Best regards ;-)

"No question is stupid, only the answer can be stupid."

or "the only stupid question is the one you don't ask."

If zico10 hadn't dared to ask the "stupid question", he might have thought the path is suitable and really fucked himself up.

And I agree on the sarcasm.

If I got him right, he realized it's too demanding for him now. For comparison, Storžič through the gully, by ferrata rating, doesn't even reach A difficulty; it's just a protected path that a bit more trained hiker passes without using cables.

"No question is stupid."

Hehe. That's a good one. I say, don't test me with that wisdom.

@JusAugostin this year I hiked seven 2000ers and at least that many 1000ers, so regarding difficulty on the normal route I rate this ascent as gradual.
@keko as you wrote, the ferrata route is definitely too demanding for me, so I asked because there was no route description on the forum and I was interested how demanding the path is.

Sorry again if I personally offended someone with my question; I think good information before heading out on a hike is of key importance. Sure, before some ascent I'll still ask something, even if some think it's stupid, because I know there will be those who will gladly give useful advice.

So I think it's most sensible to conclude this debate so we don't clutter the topic too much.
After completing the path, I'll gladly share pictures mežikanje

Sorry, didn't know you hike that much eek
You keep asking, maybe just one tip: if you looked at the upper pictures, you could read a lot from them... Like most users who ask before looking. Don't go their way. On good information, I give you a big +, because some can't even read maps. Happy to give useful advice. Share pictures sure, but know SVK isn't meant for hanging...jezik

Yeah, I saw right away that I made a mistake. I was a bit absent the last few days, we had a Mangart trip planned otherwise, but a colleague called me to work. I have an old phone, and when I came to the forum it all looked kinda so-so, there aren't even any pictures, so I asked quickly so as not to rush regarding the difficulty.

In the future, I'll study it better before writing anything, though I still prefer hearing more opinions that give a more realistic picture.

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate every well-meant piece of advice.

Zico10, Sauleck klettersteig 400m D/E is much harder than Cjajnik and Železna kaplja, which are closest and most visited ferratas for us Slovenes... Sauleck is a serious project already because of the long approach, the extreme ferrata itself and the long descent, since the whole thing takes about 9h... All our demanding hiking paths, which are supposed to be difficult: Kopiščarjeva to Prisojnik, Bavški Grintavec, Hanzova to Prisojnik, Plemenice to Triglav, can't compare to Austrian ferratas!!! You (hiked) seven 2000ers on such ferratas like Sauleck, but under the wall hiking ends and slab climbing, proper self-belay use and technique knowledge comes out, which you never meet on our hiking paths...velik nasmehvelik nasmehzmeden

Ah, I wouldn't say it's harder than Železna kaplja - it's more in the range of Cjajnik. True, there is quite some approach.

That traverse. Overall it's difficult and exposed. Säuleck is one grade easier, but longer.
