Alessio greetings to both, so you were free on Tuesday when you wrote to me, nice. Yeah when I make a description lots of people come to these areas because they trust me and as a colleague told me today despite the crowd there was still some untouched powder behind the spruces on the rightnasmeh.

This time we headed to Kovk and Lepi Vršič with snowshoes. We left the car below as the road to farm tourism Rosič was still a bit frozen in the morning and without 4x4 it wouldn't go. Already after a few 100 m we put on snowshoes because we were considerate to ski tourers and it was crusty too.
Weather forecast was very wintry but when sun broke through morning haze it was pleasant right away. At saddle between Kovk and Lepi Vršič as usual cold wind was blowing. First we climbed Lepi Vršič on very windblown ridge that still allows good skiing. Didn't stay long on top hoping it'd be nicer on Kovk. At cross a lot of people gathered. Ski tourers who always dominate here had company of snowboarders and snowshoers this time. Conditions still very good for all mentioned. Powder still to be found and can ski to Rosič without crust. We also happily snowshoed back to valleynasmeh

Wonderful yesterday's day was perfect for mountain visit. And four peaks above Ukve valley Starhand, Konjščica-Krošove skale (Monte Sagran), Lepi Vršič (Cima Bella) and Kok-Kuk (Monte Cocco) were right destination. Parked in Ukve valley at inn al Camoscio then continued on path past hut Nordio-Defar to pasture Dolinice then path 403 to peak Starhand (1968m). From there descended back to ridge which I fully crossed and with short ascent reached peak Konjščica-Krošove skale (1922m). From there descended on logging trail to saddle Mrzli studenec (Forcela di Fontana Fredda 1693m) then steeply through forest to third peak Lepi Vršič (1911m). From here again descend to saddle and last steep short ascent to peak Koka-Kuka (1941m). From here back to saddle and on logging trail back to valley to start of yesterday's tour. Nice winter tour with wonderful views. Snow about 15cm ridges were dry.

Dolina Ravne - Val Rauna, then in the initial part on dry road, then directly up through steep forest to upper bare and poor snow-covered south slopes of Kovk. Descent to saddle and across flat terrain to Lepa špica, then down to saddle Mrzli studenec, and ascent to Konjščica and back to valley on road.

Little snow for this time of year, at least compared to post from 8 years ago, moderate breeze from the west, otherwise nice loop above Ukvami.

Interested if path to Cima Bella and Monte Cocco is marked and if any issues with orientation. Haven't done this tour yet and haven't been in this area, can't find description online. Any recommendations for circular variant.

We were on Lepi Vršič and Kok yesterday, fog cleared around 1600m, above it clear with slight, barely noticeable cirrus clouds across the whole sky. On top of Lepi Vršič it blew a bit, on Kok a little less, and Slovenian mountains as plain as the palm of the hand. View of Julijce was gorgeous, Stol and peaks of Kamnik Alps visible. And neighboring Italian and Austrian hills of course.

Skiing was excellent, if 10 or 15 cm more snow, maybe wouldn't have squeaked under skis so often. Up top still patches of untouched powder, down below snow heavily tracked, slightly crusty or afternoon partly refrozen.

Nice day stolen from Ljubljana fog and clouds!

I imagined the tour to Monte Cocco and Lepi Vršič last year when an acquaintance mentioned on a trip that she walked here with snowshoes. So I couldn't get them out of my head, and the descriptions helped.
Yesterday was the right day to visit these two peaks, views really beautiful and boundless, to nearby and distant summits, all shining in the sun.
Most were on skis, walkers rare. Quite a few Slovenians, including bagi who writes a lot here on hribi-net, and those who read but don't writenasmeh.
Next time also to Starhand and Monte Sagran, peaks very close by.

@ločanka

Above Ukvami they recently opened a new thematic trail through the pastures above the valley called "Puanina tour":

In winter fully doable with snowshoes! In summer stroll among cowbells and munch something on one pasture and pour down your throat nasmeh

Nice that we met, Ločanka nasmeh. These places are a great choice for us snowshoers and of course tourers, for walkers without aids it depends zavijanje z očmi. We did neighboring Starhand and Monte Sagran too, passable without issues in good snow.

For those interested, info that Rifugio Nordia Deffar completely rebuilt. It burned down unfortunately two years ago right after full renovation. From what I saw, opening next year nasmeh.
Start on path 5071
New *old* hut Rif. Nordia Deffar, newly built with the help of the European Community2
At saddle Lom. Here runs the border between Austria and Italy3
The sun smiled at us too :)4
Austrian alpine pasture *Dolinca*. Almost all names around here are such or other derivations of Slovenian names5
Here one can refresh in the summer months and also overnight6
We say goodbye to the alpine pasture and begin to ascend to our first goal7
The ski track shows us the direction and is very useful for ascents. With snowshoes the ski track is not destroyed8
Monte Starhand. The Slovenian name is supposedly Konjščica9
At the top. The weather is wonderful, views far around10

Lepi vršič is a 1912 m high mountain with a wonderful view like all here around18
New acquaintances from Hribi.net :)19
On Kovk, our last goal this time. It was also the only one with a windswept summit20
We descended right along the ridge. With snowshoes the whole thing is no problem, only the south wind causes trouble21
And here we finished a wonderful loop :)22
Walked trail. In total about 15 km with 1300 m elevation gain23

In these poor weather conditions, one of the few suitable ski-touring trips. Still, great caution was needed due to thick fog.

Yesterday (Wednesday, March 4) with skis to Lepi vršič and Kok and back.

On the highway it was unpleasantly cloudy, but the METAR for Trbiž airport (who knows if the runway is even used) showed a satisfactory cloud base at 6000 feet, with some clouds at 2000 feet. At 10:30 at the parking by Locanda al Camoscio inn, at the turnoff to Pad Tamer valley, there were about 10 cars. As I saw later, the road was plowed a few hundred meters further past Agroturismo Rosič. There were several empty plowed but muddy parking spots.

The track was this time also via the forest path past the old Kok village, so I followed it. Snow increased with every meter, under the saddle between Lepi vršič and Kok the pole sank almost to the handle, so nearly a meter. On top of Lepi vršič I met a group of Americans who arrived two minutes before me. Skied back to the saddle, then with dogs to Kok.

The clarity forecasted by Aladin for late afternoon was still too early. Clouds were tearing and reforming. But occasional views all around revealed true winter idyll everywhere.

Skiing from the top of Kok was at first real torment. Snow was very deep, slightly wet and heavy. It was possible to ski only somewhat on the steepest slope, elsewhere I used predecessors' tracks to ski at all. Once I made a small mistake, digging out of the deep hole took a long five minutes. About 100 elevation meters below the saddle there was a bit less snow, so turns ran nicely. Around 2:30 pm I was among the last of that day, ahead of me about twenty ski tracks and still enough space for new turns. This afternoon it will probably all be tracked.
