Mali and Veliki Zdrtnik and Ptičji vrh

This morning I drove to Križovec, the road was surprisingly drivable even for a car with lower center of gravity, just one spot where water eroded the road, but as said, with some skill no problem, right below Križovec I stop, remove the fallen tree and soon park. I start straight up the logging trail which runs roughly along the west side of Mali Zdrtnik. Since the trail ends soon, I turn east on steep pathless ridge and soon reach the unmarked top of Mali Zdrtnik. Since neighboring Veliki Zdrtnik isn't visible due to fog, I descend by feel down the north slope of Mali Zdrtnik and soon hit a wide unmarked path, somewhat like a narrow logging trail, which I follow for a few minutes, but it soon ends in thinner forest. Surprised  a few meters away I spot a steep, wide and "fresh" logging trail, which I follow almost to the very top of Veliki Zdrtnik (and just before I thought machines hadn't touched the Zdrtniks yet  ). From the end of the trail to the summit, which is marked, it is just a few steps to the west.
From Veliki Zdrtnik I continue on steep pathless terrain and descend to pasture community buildings in Pusti rovt.
I continue on the road to Suha saddle, from there along the border ridge to Ptičji vrh.
Near the saddle I climb into the hunting stand, where I treat myself to a somewhat longer stop and refreshment.
Then just the descent back to Pusti rovt and by road to the starting point - Križovec.
The road from Križovec to Pusti rovt is impassable due to fallen trees, from Križovec to Pristava they have already cleared the road.

Ptičji vrh was the next day after Parkeljc's post in completely different colors, sunny but quite windy...

@Parkeljc; even such variants in slightly different weather are sometimes interesting..
Zdrtniks are of course interesting for foresters, as you see, they are overgrown with nice healthy junipers. But machines are grinding all the way to Belska planina and beyond.., -from there they've recently built a tractor road to Seča. Some say, if it goes on like this, soon you'll be able to drive to the top of Stol by car. Yeah, shit!!
I hope someone from a.s. Kor. Bela will prevent this destruction in time, which already borders on barbarism.

If the year is known by the first day, then 2012 will be a year of nice hikes. New Year's Day we used to visit Ptičji vrh. We parked at the last house above Pristava and followed fresh tracks of runners and off-roaders for a while in a couple cm snow cover. On the pastures of Pusti rovt, where we cut straight across, there was a bit more snow, so gaiters came in handy. Snow was crusty in places and broke through, just right for a bit more exercise. The summit rewarded us with views. Nobody anywhere. Such New Year's peace, good for the soul and long soaking in beauty and recharging batteries. Perfect opposite to that hissing and banging a few hours earlier. On the way back, around two, we finally met a young family rolling in the snow, and some touring skiers.

Nice to snowshoe in the hills, Zlatica. But I tell you, I'm already looking forward to flowers in the valley.

Yesterday's Ptičji vrh didn't promise good conditions, but I got a good sweat . Since I couldn't drive high above Pristava by car, I parked, put on skis and up the hill. After half a km I met a parked car, from there a nice visible ski touring track  . YIPPEE, I said and followed them. I assume at least two, if not three. Track turns right at sharp left bend, about 500m below Križovec, then soon left uphill. In Pusti rovt track right, me straight  . From there I broke my own track past shepherd's hut and instead of right on logging trail to Struška, straight across planina to Kočna saddle. First climb about 100m height along wire fence right on marked, but soon changed my mind  . Descended to saddle and tried left to Ptičji vrh. But since weather worsened quickly (wind, snow, diffuse ), not hard to turn back just below summit and ski with skins those few turns to wooden shepherd hut . There remove skins and ski back on my track. To Pusti rovt still ok, from there to Križovec pure misery, since breaking fresh track again and had to push hard with poles . But made it nice, since we used it today for ascent, just to Struška .

Mali and Veliki Zdrtnik, Mala Golica, Ptičji vrh..(22.6.- no int. connection.)..Started at Križovec and went as per Parkeljc's upper description. Fresh logging trails already green. Sure for V. Zdrtnik, not for Mali. No tracks but interesting. Under M. Golica and under Ptičji vrh slope full of colorful flowers. Under Mala Golica cows and calves grazing this year. Also Pusti Rovt full of livestock, even a bull. Otherwise road over Savske has big potholes at start and end. No initial bumps at Pusti Rovt, but possible they close gate sometimes. Strong wind and wonderful views, photos full of wind shadows. Nice even now.

I start at Dom Pristava in Javorniški Rovt. By road to Pusti Rovt, and on to Ptičji vrh. Nice sunny day, windy though Road well packed, no sinking for walkers either. Towards Ptičji vrh good to have skis or snowshoes, easier, though hikers made it without to Ptičji vrh. Track done to Belška planina too

So nicely in order. Parking at Križevec not hard to find aim to Ptičji vrh.....already just 1 sign at Križevec seems big problem, so pick one path hope it's right, on way orient by photos thank god on Hribi.net To shorten whole path we walked by feel because path nowhere marked not one sign or orientation
